Just have 6 to 12 months of living expenses in an emergency fund, of which 1/4 to 1/3 is in gold. You don't need more than that - the gold is there to hedge against (hyper)inflation. If an emergency pops up, pay for it with your dollars and fill the bucket again after the emergency is over. Try not to touch the gold for the rest of your life, make it a goal to pass it down to your children.
