I think that these methods and the advancement of technology can lead to less crimes being committed in our society. Having previously commit crimes, I am glad that I was caught and had a second chance to become a productive member of society.

On the other hand, my In-laws are a group of paranoid people who think the government listens in from Alexa. And although I don't the capability that the government could or would do such a think, it doesn't really make sense why they would or bother me if they did.

Mixed bag. America is the largest AG producer on the planet, so in that sense you're investing in companies that the broader global market has an investment in succeeding. You shouldn't expect the same gains as fast-growing industries like tech, and it can be overly exposed to things like government regulation (subsidies, trade restrictions on major crops like basedbeans, etc) but the big companies aren't likely to become insolvant in the near future. The real challenge is that agriculture margins are super thin so a minor swing in prices can significantly impact profits when multiplied to millions of tons of product.

there are biases in algorithms and facial recognition at the moment. facial recognition is more likely to trigger a false positive on a black face than a white one, leading to more black arrests. that alone will skew the results against black people.

innocent people have been convicted on as much as a half blind eye-witness from a block away getting a glimpse of someone they thought might be the guilty party. if a prosecutor can say something as vague as "the accused registered as the guilty party on a state-of-the-art computer program, and matches the description given by one of the victims", innocent people will rot in jail. black people, specifically.

There are no new shorts since no broker has any borrowable shares. It's still all melvin et al. Short volume has only barely ticked down according to both ortex and s3. With the billboards and the news, it's going to the moon guaranteed. Even if it wasn't for this, they couldn't finish covering all week anyway. Also, they're not real shorts, they're hedged puts. The fee is so high that the hedge has to be taken out as soon as the put expires, no way around it.

the bias is that the program is giving the incorrect outcome more often against black people. an innocent black person (not even "innocent" in a moral sense, just literally not involved in the crime) is more likely to match with the face of a suspect or a criminal that isn't them than a white person is under the same facial recognition software. the why isn't important, what matters is that this one bias will lead to more uninvolved black people being arrested than uninvolved white people, which means they're more likely to be seen as a suspect if they don't have a good alibi, which means they're more likely to be charged with little evidence.

what that black person may or may not have done in their life is irrelevant, all that matters is that they are not the person whose face they matched with in the software. and the companies making this software know that this is how it will play out, because they know from their own testing that false positives are more likely to happen the darker someone's skin is. and this is only one example of the serious problems that can come from using unfinished products like this to police people.
