But how will it become valueless? As long as the US keeps existing and seems that it will continue to do so, why would trust in the USD ever decrease? The dollar remained stable and even increased during the recession of 2008. The ability to print money is the essence of state power. I don't see any realistic scenario in which the dollar would suddenly be replaced in the near future. Maybe in a couple of decades or 50 year or so the world currency will be RMB but there is no reason that the USD would be swapped for something that governments can't control in the near future.
