There have been occasionally mines that have actually paid the dividend in gold/silver. The major advantage being you don't get dinged on capital gains on the dividend but instead just the tax on the metal. Which for some parts of the world is zero.
The logistics would be a nightmare but if your holdings are enough for a 10 oz bar or whatever it would be worth it.

I mostly come here because I like mining and geology, but I wanted to share this experience with the PM bulls.

I was at my bar in farm country today, and the whole fucking place was buying silver. I have never once heard any of these hillbillies talk about silver or gold beyond where to sell it if they ended up for some reason. One of them was literally setting up a brokerage account 8 beers in.

Its like a switch was thrown friday night and they all take the idea that holding physical silver is an obvious and wise thing to do. These people are the opposite of terminally online, none of them use the internet except for weather, grain prices, sending ,dick picks and depraved porn. Its not that they are stupid, but they have never followed the price of any commodity except what they buy and sell. I have no idea where the idea came from.

Their transition to the idea that holding silver is a good idea was instant, calm and smooth. It was like some transition to another timeline, they were talking about historical prices, the current spot and who the best dealer is. It wasn't like some frenzy or mania, they were all suddenly talking about silver like they have always talked about grain prices and who the best banker or equipment dealer is. They were debating the value of physical silver vs ETFs like they debate Case vs John Deere.

Not sure what it means but its not like anything I have ever seen. I'm about the only guy around with a degree, so they were all asking me questions about where markets might go, and asking about the mechanics of a short squeeze. I don't know enough to say if this is plausible for silver, and I didn't give them any advice about it but I was just shocked that they knew the right questions to ask.

This wasn't anything like the boomer relative that suddenly wants to know about bitcoin, it was like they just all suddenly took it for granted that its a good idea to hang on to some metals if you can.

So a lawyer buddy of mine tells me his friend was just appointed as the local magistrate for the one mining province. And as a the magistrate he has to sign off on new mining claims. Of course the miners always give the local authority one share to ensure that their claim is processed and approved fast. He calls me and asks if I want a share as well, 4000$usd. The magistrate asked for 3 shares and got them. 1 for me, one for my lawyer friend, one for magistrate. We go and meet him and he ends up being college classmate of my wife (lawyer as well). Long story short they ask me to help bring some machinery to work their claim. Its far from the city 18 hours, and requires a drive up thru the mountain ranges at 5000mt above sea level. I wont risk taking a big excavator but I do have a small old backhoe that finished a land clearing job. I take it and it has to cut 4km of road thru the mountains after dropping into the valley below. At the last 20mters the machine overheats and dies. I pay the locals to finish cutting the road by hand. Get the machine fixed and we start digging, hit bedrock at 10mts and find nothing. Nada. Zilch. Panning on the surface we are getting 1 palo (1/4gram) for every pan. We start working our way up the stream and find a wein. The miners work that vein till they hit 200mts in. No Gold. I take a truck load of the rock back to further analyze it and it has lead and silver in it.. but silver was at 12oz then and pretty much worthless considering the distanc eto haul it out.

This is one better ore samples. Took me 2 years to get my machine back out but the magistrate buddy ended up getting me paid 3k$usd per KM for the road I cut... had to give him 1k of that tho.. still nice experience..

american silver dollars are popular internationally just because it's the most common silver coin to see, but honestly anything silver is desirable. Silver is silver. Hell, even 90% junk silver is loved and adored by all. There is really no "wrong" silver to buy. Every major country has it's own unique round, and can be found in every common coin shop.

You have to figure out which collector you want to be. Want to buy just to stack? Buy generic rounds. If you want to just stack but have more beauty to your collection, you can buy shit that has naked chicks on em, buy american eagles, buy poured silver that looks and feels amazing....or you can be the overpriced buyer who wants limited edition silver that is sculpted/minted in a certain unique way in which you pay for that uniqueness and not for what it's actually worth as far as melt value.
