Most of the places you buy it from will buy it back, alternatively you can just sell it to other people if they want it. It's traded like literally any other commodity.

There are three scenarios that might come to pass:

If the USD goes Zimbabwe-style hyperinflation-but-we-still-use-it, you'll sell a little bit of silver to your LCS and take the resulting wheelbarrow of cash straight to the market to buy food and other necessities.

If the USD goes under but other currencies stay stable, you might do the same thing but trading for Euros or Changbux instead of USD.

If the globohomo economy collapses, you'll barter silver directly for other things of value.
