I used to like the idea of siacoin. Why did it lose so much popularity since 2018?

The interest wasn’t there so people capitulated. I honestly still think this project has legs. Sort projects by commits on CoinGecko. They’re still working and they have a functional service. Will the coin moon? Idk, still pretty cool though.

I tried to use it before and I must admit that their ui was pretty intuitive. Plus, if you wanted to fragment your files in that way yourself it would cost so much fuckin money depending on how many cpus you decided to buy for the processing of each secure hash/shard(?) regardless, I thought it was so fucking cool that you could also “mine” sia by charging siacoin for storing snarfed data on your own devices.

Are the organizations you mentioned basically replacememts? I remember learning of shardus back in college.

I'm surprised this isn't shilled more after the amazon and parler thing. I actually bought this in 2017 at the peak during summer(when I first got in crypto). Luckily I read a thread on hackforums from the admin where he said the market will dump(he was right). I sold and never looked back and held btc. He was right a second time in 2017 at ath and said he sold at $17k - 18k or so. Tfw rumors make you money

i have always seen sia as one of the leaders in crypto with regards to working tech and usefullness of tech. Unfortunately that doesn't translate to gains in this space.

I've always also adhered to the notion that the BEST marketing you can possibly perform is pumping your coin like mad. If Sia pulled a Doge, more people would learn about it and it's implications, and it would be great for crypto as a whole.

Who knows, maybe the Sia team is planning to pump their coin someday, but they probably want their tech to be crisp.

I like that pov. I think the best thing for crypto as a whole is if more people talked about it as if it were a new car model. If we just increase the times we each talk about all coins no matter what (implying we don’t meme it up) people will probably take this whole industry more seriously. Perhaps if coins were treated as non gimmicky in the future due to the desensitizing we caused of it people would be more open minded to buying. Although, I believe that no matter what at the end of this industry’s life cycle the useful will survive. I mean XLM, SIA, ETH... shit that can serve a purpose.

One of the very very few actual useful crypto projects. That sort of decentralization is what crypto should be about.
I actually bought a small stack because I planned to store some things safely, ended up not uploading it but still hold that tiny stack just in case I need to.
Honestly a shame that it is so low, they recently added streaming of stored video files I think, so they are actively extending the protocol.

Yes. That’s exactly the point of literal blockchain. Decentralized and secured by hashes/crypto whateverthefuck. The nature of this coin isn’t to be inflated anyway, but still. My bet is that once it becomes adopted for its capabilities as a service, then people will want it and therefore pump it. Similar to how NEO and GAS worked out back in 2018.

>>27132344
I think that as well. Also the fact that there’s so many other altcoins now that didn’t exist when sia was popping. I can see the appeal of a hype coin over sia...but weird that nobody has bought into actual useful shit at the very least (even if not worth it) and would rather choose shitcoins that are obviously memes.

Sia is a GOD TIER service but the problem is: nobody wants to use it.
And it's sad, because it's a step ahead in the cloud storage market. It should be the next big thing but people just dont care enough, Amazon and Google are stronger

Sia is a GOD TIER project, its just people don't understand how AHEAD of the cloud storage space this is.

Amazon and Google are strong, but SIA could be even stronger if a decentralized revolution happens

Maybe nobody likes listening to stupid podcasts about projects cause that’s fucking cringe as fuck. But if we read about them from time to time I’m betting that there will be a similar effect to how people are conditioned to want the newest apple because of the camera quality etc. there’s utility in projects and people will see that if coins are de stigmatized .

Yeah.
On Siastats there's only 700 TB being used.
With 900 SC/TB/MONTH that translates to a yearly cost of 630,000 SC/year or $53,000
I dont see how adoption will push prices higher any time soon.
You'd need 100 times as much usage before this would really push the mcap anywhere near a billion imho.
