Seriously, what is preventing them from doing this:

>Hedgefund: *borrows a fuck ton stock from broker A to short sell* (current scenario)
>Hedgefund: *buys one share of the stock from broker B, gives to broker A*
>Broker A: *sells same share to Broker B*
>Hedgefund: *buys share from broker B, gives to broker A*
*pattern continues until Hedgefund's sell positions are all cleared using just one share of one stock*

They can clear their positions without touching a single publicly held share. Are there laws against this?

>> No.27118152

>>27117779
Not even talking about the legality of it:
Why would broker b sell it for less than market value?
Why wouldn't broker A hold their stock if they think a squeeze is coming to make them even more money?
Why wouldn't broker B do that too?

>Why would broker b sell it for less than market value?
They don't
>Why wouldn't broker A hold their stock if they think a squeeze is coming to make them even more money?
Because they know the hedgefund won't be able to pay.
>Why wouldn't broker B do that too?
Same reason

The brokers earn money, hedgefund loses some due to their shit trade but they don't go bankrupt.

But what if all of these institutions are linked together and it would be in everyone's in wall streets best interest to eliminate the squeeze by trading with each other over the weekend?

>> No.27119153

>>27117779
This exactly what happens. The same shares are bought and re-bought when firms are buying to close short positions. It isn't some conspiracy.

The people who think that Melvin is required to buy their share are obviously retarded and don't realize that on some days the stock has 4x as many transactions as there are shares in existence.

That doesn't mean a squeeze is impossible but buying GME for $300 and holding isn't free money like every 16 year old on Reddit thinks it is.

They can which is why they're trying to freeze buys from the public as much as possible. Keep in mind that even with that the current price its at would be insanely expensive for them.

It's no money until you sell and you have no idea when you are going to do that.

Reddit "hold forever" army doesn't own nearly enough of the stock or have nearly enough unity to be able to dictate a price

>> No.27119918

>>27119313
How am I wrong? From what I understand the squeeze occurs when an institution is forced to buy stocks. If these stocks are held by a bunch of individuals the market will force the price to skyrocket since every other person is going to demand more money than the last since they know that the institution is forced to pay.

If the institution somehow reduces their obligation to buy then the price won't squeeze anywhere near as high because they aren't forced to buy as many stocks.
