How a GMSLA works:
1. I lend you securities.
2. You give me cash or securities as collateral.
3. I charge you an interest rate on the loan.
4. The collateral is marked daily, so I will call you if my exposure goes up (or vice versa).

In the event of a default (eg failure to pay margin or failure to redeliver securities), the agreement is terminated and the non-defaulting party will calculate the termination amount - all trades are folded into a single net payable amount (in cash). Any security collateral is liquidated and that cash (or and cash collateral straight out) is put towards the owed termination amount.

Note: BR have no liability. They are just an agent. The liability lies with those entities on whose behalf they are acting as agent (eg pension fund A). In the event of a default, BR will manage the default process and receive the termination payment. They will then agree with their client whether the client want to receive the cash or to try to source the security they lost through the default in the market.

>Investor: Hey Balckrock, can you add some shares of GME to my account?
>BR: Sure! Do you want to sign up for lending? We can guarantee returns even if the stock goes down!
>Investor: Why not? Retail may die so guaranteed gains are nice!

2021
>Investor: Wow BR! GME is $400! Can you sell all of my position before it crashes?
>BR: We’re sorry, but you signed up for the lending program. Those shares are out on loan to a guy named Melvin! Don’t worry, he pays a respectable fee for it.
>Investor: Is the fee anything close to what I would make from liquidating my position?
>BR: Heavens no! But it’s about time in the market rather than timing the market right?
>Investor: Fuck you. I want to manage my own assets.

This is why they’re afraid. They’re getting angry calls from lots of wealthy people that want to be at the front of the line to sell, so they’re halting trading at a bunch of brokers. The process is illiquid and has too much friction. They’re pushing XRP sooner because it will save BR from losing clients over a high-paced front end that outpaces the back end.

No. Not really. The entities that BR act on behalf of are sophisticated investors and would have negotiated and signed a long IMA detailing what exactly BR can trade on their behalf and the risks of those products.
They’re not losing anyone over this.

Also, XRP would have done nothing to solve this. Sec Lending is a lega relationship governed by a legal agreement. There’s no getting your securities back sooner. You have to wait until the loan matures or there’s a default. Not to mention, XRP deals with cash settlements, not securities (at present, and likely forever - they won’t tokenise securities with XRP directly as that would fuck liquidity).

2. The reality is the polar opposite of the nonsense you’ve spouted. Sophisticated investors know the risks and don’t agree themselves when things happen.

Could honestly come at any time, but I expect we’ll keep locking the van with helicopter money for at least another couple of years. The US banks are much better set up to deal with a crash right now - the European banks will suffer a hell of a lot (and many won’t make it).

> tokenizing securities via XRP. It wouldn’t fuck liquidity if smart contracts are involved.
Your average repo/sec lending agreement is between 1 day and 1 month maturity. If you have a contract tied to XRP, would that not be tying that Xerp up for a month? And where you’re collateralising, while generally you can rehype, in some cases (eg US ‘40 Act funds or certain triparty arrangements), rehype is not permitted, so you’d have the security sitting in a segregated account for however long the trade lasts.
I frankly don’t know enough about the tech to speak with any authority, but I can’t see that done without the security/contract representing xerps being tied up somewhere.
It would make more sense to me to use a different asset that isn’t meant to be traded in and out of in seconds.

They’ve brought in a regulation called BRRD which protects against contagion (basically, they freeze termination payments while regulators figure out what to do and can convert the banks corporate bonds to equity to clear some debt, amongst other things).

Of course, there would still be contagion, but the US banks are much better equipped right now. The short version is that after 2008, the yanks just took it on the chin and wrote down massive losses in one go, which cleansed their balance sheets. The euros didn’t - they wanted to spread the losses over time - and they’re still not recovered fully from 2008 because of it.

They also brought in margin regulations in 2017 so that banks are obliged to margin each other daily - so their exposures to each other are much better managed.

The blurb doesn’t say what you think it does.
It’s saying:
1. There was a default by a borrower (someone BR lent to on behalf of a client)
2. BR had the collateral (and may have received a termination payment)
3. Separately (ie not part of the sec lending arrangement with the borrower), BR found the securities in the market to put their clients (the lender) back to where they were pre-default.

Whether they’re obliged to put them back where they were pre-default is something that COULD be included in an IMA - but I’ve never seen that and for obvious reasons suspect it never happens.

>>27104386
Derivatives are just a series of bank to bank payments. They’re not a separate line item (so they’re included in the 22trn daily cross border figure as well as the much higher total (including domestic) bank transfers figure - they’re not something separate).

Funny story about BR: my wife worked there for a while and at some point in 2016/17, they had a hotshot young french guy that joined. He put together a paper proposing a new product that was mathematically a sure bet - basically subprime mortgage CDOs. Plus ca change...

Ripple moons last but guys about a mile over the moon comparatively. Nothing's changed.

The only thing is the stakes are higher and we've got more backup deep state interrelationships built since the last go around and in an economic environment that will eclipse 1929.

So my answer is most likely late 2021/early 2022. I predict 100-150ish. No switches flipped. Cash out a small out then and then hold during the next cycle when it crashes back down to what I believe will be 10-ish.

I’m guessing DTCC got a tap on the shoulder from ‘someone’, about putting a stop to everything.
It’s bullshit because once you place an order with robinhood (or similar), I can’t see how you can default. They take payment immediately and your bank will reflect that (unless it’s on a credit card?). Debit card or bank transfers shouldn’t cause any risk.

Yeh, but the suggestion is that the additional collateral was targeted mainly at brokers who were heavily one way (from the FT). So that’s essentially those where clients were buying heavily.
But unless it’s on a credit card, money should be credit same day to the broker, so the implication that there’s a risk the clients fail to settle is bullshit. If I buy shares and my account is debited immediately, then for all intents and purposes, I’ve settled already. The broker will have my money reflected in their account before their margin call the next day.
So while you can make an argument for halting trafing on credit, it doesn’t add up for trading by debit cards or by bank transfers.

I don't know for the life of me why anyone would expect XRP to be 2k within the next few weeks/months. XRP won't see such a price increase until CBDC's are adopted and use XRPL as the infrastructure backbone. Guess what, CBDC's dont even exist yet. China is frontrunning the show and they're just beta testing their digital coin and they will be several years ahead of other countries. At the moment, XRPL is just a candidate to be used, one out of an unknown amount of other candidates. Now it could be that it's already been decided behind closed doors that XRPL will be picked but based on the knowledge we have publicly, there's no evidence for that yet since central banks themselves are saying they are either developing something inhouse or are working with third parties toward that end. Best case scenario XRPL gets picked, but this is still years away. And even if XRPL gets picked that doesn't guarantee that XRP will be used, since the ledger supports all kinds of assets they could technically use something else, altho XRP would make sense.

THEORY THEORY

With this DOGE dump, they're priming everyone to fear PnDs before they pump XRP next week $2-20. This leads to two outcomes:

1) Many holders will sell and get shaken out before the switch to 4 digits.

2) Normies will avoid it to not get PnD'd again, and their reddit handlers will reinforce it by calling it a centralized shitcoin under SEC lawsuit.

Holders shaken out, normies fudded out.

Now unless you are some sort of insider who knows what I don't, feel free to share your information. CBDC's are years away from adoption, this is a fact. Everyone agrees that XRP's value will be derived from it's utility as a bridge currency between CBDC's. Except what CBDC's if they don't exist yet, and won't for years. Honestly guys this may be the trigger. The lack of liquidity is ultimately the Achilles heel of the market here.
If you consider that the short sellers owe more stocks than are in existence, if the price is allowed to keep pumping, these short selling funds will need to scrounge for liquidity wherever they can find it. Since it accounts for more stocks than exist, they could end up owing amounts approaching infinity if the pumpers have their way. The funds will need to sell off their stocks and assets to make up for this gap, but it will be to illiquid market since everyone is already piled into stocks and asset. those who arent are too scared to be buying at this time anyhow.
The crash creates a RIPPLE effect as a lynch pin for a crash. It presents the perfect "solution" for blockchain since blockchain solves both the issue of more stocks in existence being lent out (Smart contracts, ALGO, etc), and provides the liquidity solution (XRP).
Welcome to Event 2/01, it's gonna be a show.

you can fall for the surface of the play
but how do you fall for that one, and not fall for xlm?

do you also think xlm and jed is in rivalry with xrp? how come that's an illusion, and china being pro bitcoin isn't?

how come they are iso20022 ready before many countries, shouldn't they resist in favor of bitcoin?

why not accept the ccp will regulate bitcoin the moment it's relevant and ripple was only bringing this up to the trump administration so they can buy into the coin, but ultimately has nothing to do with it or with whats happening

you either see through the stage or you dont
if youre gonna take it on the surface about china being rival with ripple and for some reason did not undermine their standardization, you should also start shitposting about how xlm is actually an xrp rival and maybe go full retard and say its gonna be the actual bridge currency standard

Yeah and the technical element of it is the least of everybody's concern. You think the transition will happen in a week or two, despite many countries saying they don't even have plans for this in the near future(next 3 years). You think that out of the blue they'll just say: "uhh yeah we're getting rid of the petro dollar today, you'll be deposited a new mystery coin to a wallet that we've already prepared for you, we'll mail the address to you by the end of the day". wrong, and retarded

>>27112877

Fuck Ripple.
They had years to moon this fucking token and sort shit out with SEC.
If they want to pretend XRP is open source and separate to Ripple, they also have to deal with the small chance that a group of 30000 people may get together to inflate the price.
I'm sure David will spend all weekend working on a system of bots to contend with the flow.
