27042431 No.27042431 [Reply] [Original]

There have been posts about short-sellers; why do they need to close their position? Can't they hold out until the price goes down? They can indeed do that, but they have to pay to borrow those shares, what ARE they paying to not close?

FAQ on selling short shares.
https://ibkr.info/article/1146

Rough calculations based on the current price of GME.
There's an approximate 32~% on GME short Borrow Fee Rate, assuming 60million shares being shorted everyday.
60,000,000 shares X $300/share = $18 billion dollars are being borrowed for shorting.
$18 Billion * 32% / 360 days in year = $16 million dollars a day (trading day or not)

The money that they have tied to margin on the short cannot be used elsewhere. If they could have been making 5% somewhere else, they are effectively paying 37% to short GME stock.
>when will the squeeze happen?
The better question is WHY the squeeze will happen. At some point, these hedge funds are going to need that money for something else. They are losing ~16mill/day. That is assuming the price does not go up. If it goes up any more, they are losing more on interest.

The other problem for them is what happens when they cannot borrow shares anymore. If any of us decide they want to sell, and the brokerage has to get the stock back from the short-seller. The short-seller has to go to the market and buy for whatever price is available. In a way, we have control over what price they are forced to buy at. If the liquidity in the market disappears, you can set your price to be $1488.69, and they have to pay it. Holding the stock, you are squeezing hedge funds and market makers for as long as there is no liquidity for GME stock.
>we can stay retarded longer than they can stay solvent

To clarify, they don't need to buy your shares. They can buy shares over and over again. In all likelihood if they cover their short position and return the shares, the people who got the shares would be happy to sell them back again so they can be used for the next set of short positions. So a bunch of shares could be used multiple times to cover the short interest.

SHORT LADDER ATTACK INCOMING HOLD HOLD HOLD UP VOTE AND SHARE

In the last hour of trading some of us are predicting they will launch a short ladder attack to make it look like it’s selling off to trick you into selling your shares. Their goal is to go under $115 to get out of their expiring contracts. This will be a major victory for them.

Hedge funds sell back and forth with one another at lower and lower bids in rapid succession, tricking algorithms into thinking there is a mass sell off when there actually isn’t. (They do this to scare off retail investors to engineer a sell off). Once the attack is over, the stock will normally go back up due to its demand. Then they will rinse and repeat their attack, each time hoping to chip away more and more retail investors. Most people in here know this, so if retail investors are selling, it’s unlikely that it’s anyone at all.

ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS HOLD HOLD HOLD! DON'T GET PAPER HANDS DURING THE LAST HOUR, ITS WHAT THEY WANT!

GET RID OF THE STOP LOSSES, THEY WILL TRY HUNT THEM
