Depends on what your purpose is. Long term hedging against inflation and expecting relativity stable times, larger bars are more efficient because you pay less over spot. If you're hedging against complete societal collapse and potentially needing it as currency, well unless you have some good scales and casting molds its going to be difficult shaving some slivers off your 1kg bar to pay for food or your neighbors daughter.
