My big brother got it in a booster pack back when we were kids. I was mad jelly. When he stopped collecting, he gave it to me. I've had it since. No idea if it's worth anything, but it's not like I'm gonna sell it.

I own a couple thousand € in high rarity Yu-Gi-Oh cards. It's really difficult to sell them at market value, and the more expensive a card, the more a potential buyer will scrutinize it for little imperfections. Only worth it if you take really good care of your cards and actively trade.

It's like some old supercars, specially europeans (ferrari, lambos), their value is their uniquess and that they are never gonna make them anymore.

This

MTG often gets labeled as a joke but last year caused a shitload of small time holders and stores to dump their legacy cards and old booster boxes. They don't play anymore, they got more than they paid for, they're out a job, etc.

However the thing that's still mostly underground is the big box market. just look at what Doom boxes are going for these days. I remember getting Doom II for something like 10 dollars a few years ago, now its always over 50 bucks. Original mail order or shareware boxes are in the hundreds now. Quake and Duke Nukem boxes are also seeing similar jumps. Blizzard boxes are holding fairly reasonable prices, though I guess that's mostly due to the large supply.

In a few years, you're gonna see a huge amount of hype into those thing. People are gonna be sharing images of people with bookshelfs filled with big boxes and how they found them all at a yardsale or whatever.

Pokemon is the biggest entertainment product in history, right? So it will remain popular for a long, long time and new generations of kids will always get into it. But the value is going to only last in owning those rare first edition cards in good condition. The value will rise and fall some, but they should remain valuable. The rest of the stuff will probably get too oversaturated I'd think.

"Scalping" helps the game be cheap though in the case of MTG and Pokemon. If Wizards normally prints 1 million booster boxes and there is a sudden surge in people buying the boxes purely for speculation, next set is gonna see a larger print run, meaning more cards in circulation and thus cheaper cards.

Real scalping would be if wizards made up some retarded rule where they said that they will never print more than X amount of a particular card and scalpers moved in and bought them all up.

>>26904045
The most profitable way to make money on MTG that requires literally 0 effort is buying sealed product. Buy any sealed product, hold 5 years, the price will double. Speculating on old or tournament cards is extremely volatile and not wise to do without knowledge of game or talking to someone who does. Moreover, the current Magic market is inflated to fuck from dipshits like yourself, a price correction is extremely likely as the actual demand from players for these old cards is satiated and investors are left bagholding cards for a playerbase that doesn't need or want any more. Reserved List is probably the exception to this, and certain esoteric lists of cards like TN cards with an artificially capped supply. Buy sealed product, it is massive return with practically no knowledge or oversight required, and there are tons of places online that will happily snap up sealed product from 5+ years ago.
