IPO are bad when they sell wide. Remember Facebook IPO? They failed to meet expectations. The media like WSJ and WP hyped it especially saying that they would gain a lot and it would just go high up. It didn't and they put it in a bad light because of that. But in the end it was successful. It stayed afloat. When an IPO sells low, they can control it and steer it with their profits. If you sell it all in one short burst, The prices can plummet easily rather than become stable. WP predicted a huge pricetag can said it failed when the pricetag was actually lower. That is true, but it was more stable than had it just sold high.
That doesn't IPO don't make money when they fail. They do, just not for everyone.

Picking any single IPO is certainly a gamble, but as a whole, IPO's tend to outperform the overall market, with less volatility

IPO's are intentionally underpriced to reward prime brokerage customers and incentivize them to get the deal done. Price too many IPO's like KING, and pretty soon, you won't be doing any more deals.

I have a $10 fee on every trade with Ameritrade, meaning I have to make more than $10 per trade.

This shit makes it completely pointless unless you're putting down thousands of dollars on every single trade. What I want to do is trade all day long and trade when it's $1 up or even half a dollar up, but you would have to be putting down immense amounts of money for the big stocks that are that liquid, $1000s, to make up for the $10 fee and then for profit itself.

How do you guys trade?

I don't day trade, but if I were I would like to trade on 1% bumps in the market. So given that I would need at least $10,000 to earn $100 for 1% increase in a stock. Preferably I would use $30,000 and do three trades at a time so hopefully I would earn more money that way.

Yeah, I have that much money to do it, but I haven't gotten the nerve to sell all my longs that are supposed to be LONG investments. I'm too busy during the day to watch them though.

But yeah you need at least $10,000 to day trade with and even then you putting most of that on the line.

>> No.287003

>>286825
You can't trade without money. Unfortunately. Try Penny Stocks but I wouldn't reccommend that seeing as how you're bitching about $10, you clearly don't have money to lose or play with. And that's what you'd be doing with penny stocks, playing with them.

There is "some" money to be had.

>> No.287036

>>287003
I have $25,000 for this, and I'm planning on putting $5000 into the market tomorrow. I'm very new to this, you can find my posts earlier up.

I'm not bitching about losing $10, I'm bitching that the $10 fee makes it completely impossible to day trade rapidly unless you're willing to put down several thousands of dollars on each trade, because you'll be glad if expensive stocks go up one dollar in a day, but you're only going to be making a dollar per share then.

Without the fee you could do this with far less risk and make constant 1-9 bucks off everything for far less money by trading all day. It forces you to be conservative, and make longer-term big trades, when I can already tell what I really want to do is trade rapidly throughout the day. I sit on a computer all fucking day in the house, and I have more than enough time to sit there all day trading.

I'm here to make large amounts of money, and I really do plan on putting several thousands down very often, it's just my thought so far on trading fees.

Unfortunately, I'm really only going to be losing money from the trading fee otherwise. I really see absolutely no point for me to even play with stocks unless I'm putting down thousands.

It's not like I'm investing in anything but companies that aren't going anywhere, and it's not like I could ever lose a significant amount of that money, I could just sell it back, those shares aren't going down by any "significant" amount.

I bought IBM stock today, if I bought 27 shares at the same price ($5099.49), and sold them all at $90.66 today, I would have made $38.32 taking the $10 fee into account, just within a few hours.

If say tomorrow, or maybe sometime in the next few days it goes back up to $194, I would have made $128 including the trading fee. If it went down even a few bucks and I decided to sell it instead of holding it (which I probably would until it went back up), it's not like I would be losing $5000, or any sort of "significant" amount of money.

As of now, I've made about $3 profit off the trade, which isn't even enough to cover the $10 trading fee. Case in point, I have no reason to keep trading small amounts, because the overhead of the trading fee is just going put me in the red if I do. Even if I'm new to this, it's what I have to do, or I just have to not do it at all.

This is a very temporary solution, and it's a big hassle. I would rather not maintain multiple brokerage accounts.

Well, it's temporary unless something like etrade gives you 60 days free trading, and allows you to sign up for multiple accounts with the same identity and still get that benefit each time. However even if they did, this is something I seriously do not want to do at all, it's not exactly easy or quick to sign up for accounts with these online brokers, and this would be a huge hassle to juggle all the accounts, if not a larger security risk.

Bought WWE at $23.20 after the WM drop. Hoped it would do something. Should I sell it before it drops to the teens? or have some faith?

XONE rallying the past couple days.

God I wish I didn't buy in at $40 on the advice of some random dude on /biz/, but it looks like I might get my money back soon.

What's everyone opinion on Radioshack? Personally I hate the store and it probably won't be around in five years, but the stock seems low enough that it should have decent room for a 100%-300% pump within a year before it has its last dying gasps. Thinking of putting some serious money on it.

Well I know they have a shit store that's useless now, and full of extremely overpriced stuff. Just on that basis I wouldn't touch it. Pretty much any company I hate or think makes shitty products I wouldn't touch.

and the plot thickens.

whats the tax difference between over a year vs juggling? if i own a stock for 2 years, sell and buy it back within one day, is it back to the old tax % for the next year?

are hit and runs [assuming you were doing that right] better than considering tax rates and dividends [buy and hold]?
