You're not wrong, but consider that GME is tried and true as a meme play, and the GME thesis is STILL not unraveling. It's far better than any meme, hence it's worth the kind of gamble on.
35k vs 40k hardly changes a thing in your quest for wealth at these levels, and the 5k in calls can in turn become several millions rather easily (as in, it's not a slim chance, it's a medium chance). Reminder: itm options are time value-bonus'd (price - strike) TIMES 100. If 5k buys you 5 far calls, you expect to make far in excess of 100*100*5 = 50k at 350 (probably in the environs of 80k+ depending how far out the calls are, far more if it was otm). That's almost 100k instead of the 70k you're eyeing even if you have to wait all the way to expiration for it to happen.

In conclusion, accumulate enough money so that gambling 1k on a meme is not too bad for you. This will then allow you to gamble 5k, 20k, ... and one day you'll be gambling 1m for fun.
However also note that just because you gambled the right amount of money at the right time doesn't mean you have the balls to just hodl, i.e. that you understand how to properly choose when to exit or not.
