They got caught up in the silicon tech dreamworld where companies just immediately disappear once they're made obsolete, and forgot the fundamentals (which is funny how he's preaching it so hard). GME had a healthy balance sheet, low debt:earnings, and enough cash to go on for years with little to no profit, all they'd have to do is keep closing stores. It was never going to be a quick death like these guys were hoping for. They got greedy, got caught with their hand in the cookie jar, and now as long as reddit keeps hodling, they either take a $4bil L, or they keep doubling down and borrowing more money to cover their positions and avoid being liquidated (institutional investors are given a lot of leeway with this by brokers, its not like when a normal persons short gets liquidated). They're basically in a position now where they admit defeat, and then GME turns into a bubble, or they keep being forced to buy more shares and push the price up further.

They'll still most likely still make money in the long run, but dont underestimate how hard this is fucking them right now
