The scale you're using to measure your self-worth is incredibly irrelevant by today's standards. Hate to use Indian Dad's term but the "Invisible Scripts" we still hold as gospel milestones of our worth are not based in today's reality. I live with my spouse in a shared house with two other dudes just to save money so I can do other things we want to do and enjoy. We were both "failures" at 23-25, but are working as pretty successful remote freelancers, who can come and and go as they please. There was pressure, or more like consistent questions from both set of parents about buying a house just to be on our own, and we decided to invest our money elsewhere (especially since we won't be staying longterm).

25 might as well be the new 18, trust me.

Our age bracket it had it pretty fucking rough in our early to mid 20s, and 35k isn't something to feel down over. There's people struggling more to make less. Part of why we got into stocks and crypto was purely to take more control over the little finances we did have.

There's always options, and other doors, but we were programmed by guilt (essentially) to continue on the path that makes no sense to walk anymore.

Life is pretty good desu but I feel I don't get out enough to meet girls. They couldn't be more wrong; it's about going to where there's opportunity and capitalizing. My uncle left the country to some 3rd world shithole to open some cement factory. It started fairly small - he only had a couple grand plus some help from my grandparents. But being the only supplier in the area, the demand was great. In 5 years the factory had more than quadrupled size; he had 3 plants fully operational, and was/is a millionaire.

Another friend in his early 30's made some online, user-friendly accounting system, specific to certain vendors, and lives comfortably off passively licensing it. He literally doesn't work - he just takes up hobbies.

Now you might ask that the system is to blame but realize that any socioeconomic model is flawed due to the human factor. You could also abuse an communist system by establishing a monopoly or getting cozy with the party bloc.

Stop mindlessly working or studying. Take a fucking second to think about how could you best be using your finite time for maximum monetary gain.

It's not back-breaking labor but I can barely think straight when I get home because I'm so exhausted, been doing this for two years now. Barely have the energy to cook food and take a shower, much less be sociable or engage in any hobbies that go beyond "idly browse the internet or read a book". Since I'm on my own I don't have any expenses really, but before this job I've been a spendthrift and with low impulse control so it's been hand-to-mouth. I can't for the life of me how people manage to have real lives on this kind of salary, let alone less. Even now that I've managed to sort my economy things are dicey and I'm always two or three paychecks from ruin and the constant anxiety is beginning to fray on my nerves.

Being an uneducated wage-slave is NOT worth it unless you're fine with a life of continued drudgery or unless you're capable of studying on the side.

Gonna start a full-time vocational programming course come autumn, two years. I've done my research, everyone who finished the course had been headhunted by tech-firms well before the two years were up earning almost one third more than I do straight out of school. Money is going to be tight, but with any luck I'll pull through.

All in all, I've failed each and every one of the aspirations I had when I was young and school taught me nothing about life but I'm not really in any dire straits yet.
