I'm gonna say this straight up. I never short. I fucking suck at timing the top. I really fucking do. Some people are good at each and make a ton, but I already gave up on the idea.
What I do is pretty much look for bounces to long and increase my stop loss to just above my entry price if they do go up.
For me, trying to get good long positions open for months while something moons 3x, 5x, or even 10x, works best. Just increase your stop loss from time to time (make sure it's below 70% the current price to not get caught by scamwicks). If you feel it's near the top local, either make the stop loss somewhat close to the current price and see if it hits naturally (and still get out with a good profit), or close it.
Eventually it's going to go down a lot. and trigger your stop loss. If it just had a parabolic run before dumping hard, do not open another long just yet.
Wait until it gets really low in RSI for a few days, then try more or less time close to the bottom of the next red scamwick. (Make sure to only use fractions of your stack, stop losses, and low leverage (2x-4x works best). If you get it more or less right, it will bounce back up. Once it bounces enough, move your stop loss just above your entry price again and repeat the steps above.
It's going to hit your stop loss multiple times until it actually moons for real. But that's fine. You just wanna keep in that game until you get a REAL moon, and then that's when you get the real profits that make up for every small loss and much more.
At least that's how it worked for me. There are probably much better strategies out there.
