Two weeks after graduating from high school in the US, I moved, by myself, to Shanghai, China. Originally pursuing an unexpected internship with a Chinese angel investor, I instead found myself taken in by a crew of early Bitcoin visionaries and coders. Over the next year, as their get-anything-done utility player, I was thrust into a unorthodox world of ever escalating eccentric situations as we watched Bitcoin soar from $2,000 to $20,000 and the net worth of those in the group exploded higher.

In Deferred Admission I share my stories as a teenager in China imbedded in a chaotic race for cryptocurrency idealism and riches. Dealings with bankers and conmen, oligarchs and programmers are detailed while I haphazardly crisscrossed North America, Asia, Europe, and Africa. Home invasions in Shanghai, car bombs in Malta, poker winnings in Mauritius, and tea with Chinese Rap stars in Chengdu help to frame the story of a kid who should have otherwise been a freshman in college.
