How can you know if you're early on a financial asset?

There's people moving always late, but there's people entering and leaving too early.
The firsts join and get dumped, but the seconds take just some little gain and often miss the big pumps.
Is there any indicator to have a better view, if you're early?

The best gauge is valuation. If you have a good grasp of the long term prospects of the underlying, you can confidently enter something overlooked.
Valuation is an inherently difficult and subjective process though. When you enter something early, the unknowns are enormous and the data is little.
