If you really want to fuck with options I suggest buying 100 shares of something—I've been doing well with AMC—and selling covered calls. The point is that the ITM-> OTM or OTM ->ITM switch point represents the most dramatic swing in the weight of intrinsic to extrinsic for the option premium. It is rare that any long term (>week) strategy would have those two separate goals in mind. The point of ATM (or near the money) options is to ride momentum that is "relatively" insensitive for a short while to IV. Probably the best way to daytrade with options DESU.

So in terms of your scenario you are missing key pieces of data: expiry and IV. But, for example, let's say that its a boring ticker that has been in a channel for weeks or months. Than a 10% SP increase all at once would cause an enormous spike in IV which would benefit the OTM option the most, the ITM option the least (but still high), and the ATM option in between.
