You get more leverage with options, as each contract is for 100 shares. So with one call option, you are 'controlling' 100 shares
The main reason people use options is to hedge positions - to limit losses
If you know a specific time frame for the stock to rise, you use calls, as they are based upon time
Eg. If you knew a $50 stock was going to go up to $55 within a week, you would make more with calls than by holding shares.
You can also 'lock-in' prices very far in advance with both puts and calls. If you're bullish on a stock long-term, you can see bigger gains with LEAPs (options longer than a year - some people argue longer than 2 years to be considered a LEAP)

Each call option contract is for 100 shares
If you have 3 calls, you can buy 300 shares.
You are buying from the person who sold you the contract. The person who sold you the call is the other party in the contract that has been created. They are the seller, you are the buyer.
The way options work is not by "2% gain" - it's by the amount that the current price is above the strike price on the call, factoring in the greeks
So for example, a $50 call and now it's at $51, the call was $1.60, with a delta of 0.25, 1 times 0.25 = 0.25 so the call would now be worth $1.85
You multiply delta by the gain (simple version) to find out how much the call has gained - you also should factor in theta decay if the call expires within 2 months, especially if it expires within several weeks
