What episode are you on, anon? It's true that Higurashi had a more interesting setting than the generic western mystery novel one but it does get better. At the very least, the soundtrack should keep you entertained at all times

I wish I could be in your shoes reading it for the first time, anon. Maybe it's not your cup of tea but I'd advise you to try and keep reading until episode 3 despite how long the VN is. If by then it doesn't click with you then you can give up, no big deal. Ryukishi wrote Umineko on several layers at once and it might be off putting compared to Higurashi who played it straight despite the overall mystery having less established rules to work with, ironically. You should enjoy Battler and Beatrice's debates at the very least
