I'm considering moving somewhere with a lower cost of living, like Raleigh or Indianapolis or something like that but I'm curious what you guys would do.

I'll give you a real answer and a retarded answer.

The real answer is keep three-six months worth of your expenses in savings and use the rest to invest in a mix of medium-risk/high-risk investments through a trusted brokerage firm. This will probably net you between 3-6% yearly interest. It's safe.

Now what I would do. Get those three months of emergency funds, keep it in savings. Take 20,000 and split it amongst BTC, ETH, and LTC in a 60/35/15 ratio. Take another 20,000 invest in super high risk investments like Tesla puts over the next 6 months.

Then you lose everything. ;)

Open a roth account with fidelity or vanguard

Buy whatever low fee fund tracks the market (FZROX is fine for fidelity, or a target retirement fund if you don't wanna worry about diversifying ever)

Do this for both 2020 and 2021, put in 6k for each year.

Right now you need to work on your income. I dunno how old you are or if you're planning on moving anytime soon, but that'll impact the next few steps

if you have stable employment/housing, I'd open up a SEP IRA and max that out for 2021. I think its 20 or 25% of your total income, so you can probably squirrel away 10k or so into that. This will leave you with half your savings (25k)

I would use 10k of that savings to go to either a trade school or some programming bullshit so you can increase your income this year. just about anything should pay more than 40k/yr.

Finally, you'll have about 10-15k left, half of which I'd leave in a savings account in case shit hits the fan. The rest? You can put into a brokerage account and buy SPY, or set a few grand into crypto if your life is stable enough to have that money in cold storage for at least 5 years
