This thing is a fucking turd.... what was I thinking betting on ETH has my horse is in this race! You have no idea how much Im kicking myself i n NOT picking literally anything else. Seems like Ethereum gets the worst of both worlds. It has all the risks of an alt coin (ie volatile dumps and stagnant price action) with none of the benefits of an alt coin (double and triple digit pumps). Shill me on staying in this position because I'm ready to cut and run...

As we all know, many people got attracted to BTC in 2020 because of its hardened monetary policy. 21M Bitcoin. Halvings every 4 years, etc. etc.

But in 2021 and 2022, ETH will get two upgrades that will give it a monetary policy that’s better than BTCs: (1) EIP 1559 and (2) deprivation of the POW rewards.

EIP 1559 is coming likely mid year and is a fee burning mechanism that will burn a portion of the gas fees in each transaction. So you can imagine the effect of this as the utility and value of Ethereum/DeFi/etc. goes up and people want to use it more.

Getting rid of the POW rewards in favor of the POS rewards will alone result in a issuance rate drop from about 4.5% to 0.5%. This alone is incredible because its an issuance rate less than Bitcoin for about the next 12 years.

Then, when you factor in the fee burning effects, ETH’s issuance can go negative (something BTC can never do). Over the next year or so, we will start to see ETH being talked about as a competing digital SOV to BTC, and I believe its going to gain a significant amount of that market share.

This doesn’t even account for ETHs utility as programmable money and collateral.

I'm all in on this and I don't even know what the fuck the point of holding this garbage is anymore. It always struggles to gain against BTC. Why not just hold BTC and do away with all the risk and complexity, but still make the same (or more) gains?

Yeah... woop de fuckin doo. Who gives a fuck about all this trash, all I care about is the price of the coin and all of this clusterfuck of complexity only adds more risk to the coin as an investment, causing it to rise lethargically, but dump spectacularly.

BTC is winning for a reason - because it's simple, knows its place, and is good at what it is designed to do. It doesn't try to be everything all at once. None of the extra grime that only serves to inject uncertainty in the project, BTC is well defined and complete, which is why everyone wants BTC and not ETH.

Still better than btc

Lost to crypto kitties, very good coin sirs.

this piece of trash better do something soon, i hold 20% of it in my portfolio but all it's done is drag performance.

>> No.25947758

piece of shit

>> No.25947792

also to add - a big problem is that even if performance is decent compared to stocks for example - that's not what people compare it to. people in the crypto game are already in on BTC etc, so can easily just sell it down and transfer to BTC. so even if they do completely different things, people will be very quick to dump ETH in favor of BTC, which is not only less risky but performs better.

Seems to me the main problem in crypto is that there's no way to hold funds until receipt of goods, because there's no neutral intermediary (bank, via local letter of credit.)

Does ETH's smart contracts (whatever they're called) do anything towards solving this problem?

It's been holding stable at 1100 while BTC has been fluctuating like hell. ETH is the better coin for long holding.

fell for the EIP-1559 meme meanwhile double BTC inflation rate the past few years AND POW and POS rewards on 2 chains for an unknown amount of time will result in massive dumping when staking and rewards are unlocked
