Shorting is the process of buying and holding one particular asset until the value of that asset matures to a desirable target for the owner, at which point the owner sells their holdings for another currency/asset (I prefer to use stable coins or USD), then sets a buy order for the original asset that they held at a typically far lower price than they originally sold it for.

This is based on the original owner expecting the price of the original target asset to drop to or below the target re-entry point. Any crypto exchange will do fine. You can do it on the traditional stock market but it's looked down upon for some reason from what I've read. It's commonplace in the crypto trading space, probably because there is not nearly as much regulation (yet).

I use Binance, Kraken is another good one. I don't use Coinbase Pro but some people here do.

I think you and others are making this harder than it is. Just trade smart. It's basically gambling unless you know what you're doing. Learn basic technical analysis patterns first, always keep larger market sentiment and world events in mind when trading within a certain timeframe.

Right. So if the price goes up, nothing happens if you're spot trading (entering and exiting at specific prices, and you can cancel spot orders at anytime).

In the example I gave you, I used an asset (BTC) in which the value is always fluctuating. But what we bought that asset with in this example was USD (a "stable" currency, as in 1 always ='s 1).

If you set the new buy order at the lower price that you're expecting BTC to drop to, but it doesn't, you don't lose any money if you're spot trading. Your order just never gets executed. If you keep the buy order for $200 open at $100 = 1 BTC and the price of 1 BTC just keeps going up, you still have $200, you would just get less BTC if you were to cancel the order and buy at the higher market price (fear of missing out buying).

OP isn't using spot trading. This nigga went full retard and used what is called margin trading. Trading on margin is using borrowed funds either from the exchange or a third party to create additional leverage for yourself. It's probably the most high risk form of trading there is, and it is not for beginners. It isn't like spot trading where you can create or cancel an order at anytime. When you trade on margin, you set a target buy execution point, at the cost of losing all that you put up for collateral (the price at which you get liquidated if the market doesn't go your way).

I didn't explain it very well, but don't fucking margin trade until you understand trading better. Some anons here are mad lads and I've seen some people margin trade their way to millionaire status in three moves or less. But they're just straight up fucking ride or die. They DGAF and probably have the most balls out of any of us here (or the least amount of brains depending on who you ask).

That's swinging. If BTC doesn't go to $100, he doesn't buy any, and still has $200. OP is taking a SHORT position. He is literally SHORT of the amount he owes unless it drops.

He is selling rn what he doesn't have. He puts up collateral (let's just say he shorted 1 BTC @ $30k, w/ x10 leverage). So... In such a scenario he would put $3k up as collateral, but could spend 10x that amount ($30k power). So he owns 1 BTC, but also owes $27k to the lender for the leverage. Once 1BTC drops to $25k he's made $5k profit (he buy a BTC @$25k to pay back the lender for his @$30k BTC, and pocket the difference). IF, however, the price rises to $33k, then the lender will liquidate his position (sell the BTC he's holding, and keep the $3k collateral) - b/c at that point he no longer has any leverage to cover the losses. You see 85% of my trades are profitable after only 1 minute. I also play multiple timeframes. I use minute candles to enter a trade. If I loose I could be happy waiting for correction on the hour frame.
