I don't think it's common but some people really do sell dumps and buy when it's pumping hard. Generally I try to do the opposite, or at least stick to my plan. Little known fact but crypto has a lot of parralels with forex and stocks.

Markets are designed to make hordes of people buy the top and sell the bottom, which is why unemotional psychopaths are usually the best at winning in markets.

Since crypto has such a low barrier for entry and all the normies are getting in more and more since they see it doing nothing but pumping, they’re gonna get cocky, either by longing and getting liquidated on a wick, or by panic selling the bottom for a loss before it pumps again. Most people can’t bear to see their money dwindling down and are super prone to making rash decisions.
