Are you cashing out in your parents name to protect yourself in case of divorce?

I am putting everything in my mom and dads name and maxing their RRSP and TFSA contributions. Then at death any cash + TFSA will flow to me tax free. RRSP's will be sold and counted as income but my parents can slowly grind this down for living expenses anyways.

If the marriage is a success I will do an section 86 estate freeze and slowly my parents redeem their preferred shares over the remaining years of their lives.

What are your plans /biz/? Is there anything big I am missing? Any Canadian prenup lawyers that can chime in with there own perspectives?

if you need to do this much to protect your assets, ask yourself. Is marriage really worth the risk?

Absolutely with a good woman. That doesn't mean you shouldn't take steps to protect yourself.

>if you need to do this much

You mean a few hours of planning and discussions with professionals? If you can't be half assed to do this marriage and society probably isn't for you.

Have your parents setup a family trust
do sneaky things like borrow money from your parents with your home as collateral
or better yet, the home should belong to the trust, and you rent it from your parents
basically have nothing in your name.
and if you can, get out of your job and work for your parents at minimum wage.

expert mode:
never get married
knock up [girlfriend]
oops she doesnt know who the father is
government cheese pays for kids
she rents home from your parents
you live off the books

Pay our taxes and use the above strategies to defer them for as long as possible.
