i don't know about safepals bc i only have ledger and trezor but i assume there is some kind of proprietary software. set up your hardware wallet and install the program or whatever, then make an XRP wallet (write down the 12-word passphrase and keep it in a safe place!) then you should get an address. send your XRPs from the exchange to that wallet address- send a few first to make sure it works, then send the whole stack, and your XRP will be safe.

inquire back if you have any difficulties, there are frens in this thread who will help you out. by taking your funds off the exchange you are doing the right thing.
