This probably isn't /smg/ related, but I am looking for some advice on how to us an IRA/Roth IRA to buy a property and rent it to a family member. As far as I am aware, if I buy using IRA funds I can't rent to family - but is the same thing true with a Roth?

Looking for a handy way to purchase a property for my daughter without taking out an equity loan. She and her husband would use it as rental income in the future, or just resell it.

I just saw PLUG and now Bloom Energy shilled all over the place.

I have to say again and again: Hydrogen is a meme, it's all an investor-bait pump and dump that is not viable due to the laws of physics. Roundtrip efficiency cannot go above 70%. Storing it is a bitch (it goes through 1 inch of stainless steel like air through a baloon overnight). Transporting it via pipelines is basically impossible. Putting it in a car will result in the biggest car explosions you've seen on TV.

Literally anything else is better for storage:
- Gravity-based storage
- Fucking batteries (Lithium and molten salt)

Any fossil power is cheaper. Way cheaper. Even fucking nuclear, which is also dumb as shit, is better.

It's okay to go for the pump wave, but for the love of god, don't hold these stocks.

this doesnt matter. fossil fuels efficiency is much lower. Nobody cares about efficiency in real world.

The thing about batteries is - you just cant have stuff like trucks powered with them, the range is just not good enough. But you cant have it with hydrogen. And you get the
>green, clean etc
money incentives for using them.

>Putting it in a car will result in the biggest car explosions you've seen on TV.
youre just talking out of your arse, tests disagree. They make the tanks able to withstand gunshots. Also, if there's a hole, hydrogen leaks out in the atmosphere very fast, its not like with petrol where there's a puddle

There are several sources which connects BTC to real money. Money tied to btc: busd is managed by binance and coordinates with the federal reserve, usdc which is directly run by the federal reserve etc.

Then there's Tether, which is a company based in hong kong with zero audits and prints a shit ton of money. There's a massive suspicion that they are printing usdt without having actual usd to back it up. essentially USDT is counterfitting and this is the largest BTC bubble

If the SEC finds any foul play, its literally over.

Hydrogen is mostly useful for grid storage on the megawatt scale. It really does matter whether you lose 30% of your electricity or not. Even if it's generated by solar arrays, it's not "free", you're paying the opportunity cost.

>ou just cant have stuff like trucks powered with them, the range is just not good enough

which is fine for the truck companies if theres a longer range.

This is 100% false. The Tesla Semi LR will be 800 km+ fully loaded. The most trucking is distances shorter than this and the vast majority of trucking loads are under the weight where having a battery would mean you would have to carry less or you would be over the weight limit. Instead EV trucks are much cheaper to operate than both ICE and hydromeme semis, that's why they're going to win out.

You have to look at the big picture tho. The only thing Hydrogen has going for it is range, and maybe specific power. And that's even dubious unless you calculate with multiple drivers per truck.
In every other regard, hydrogen sucks.

That's a completely irrelevant metric, used by the same people who say the wind turbines consume more energy than they put out, it's nonsense. The main factor for trucking companies is how cheaply they can ship their goods, EVs are the obvious winner and have much cheaper operating costs. Any company still using ICE decades from now just won't be able to stay competitive.

Also these vehicles will be able to take advantage of cheap extra solar generation during the day and according to Tesla, their semi can charge 640km in 30 minutes. This is very cheap and efficient.
>>25750005
Hydrogen doesn't have a use. You should have walked your argument back to long range trucking only but it still doesn't make sense because tag team driving is a minority of long haul trucking and there is plenty enough time for solo drivers to charge on their mandatory breaks. They could also just drop a trailer and have another truck pick it up if time was a concern, the main thing is the total cost of moving goods.

You're just moving the goal posts for no reason. Hydrogen would be even worse off in a situation where driving was done autonomously because once you remove the driver which is a most of the cost of trucking, the cost of moving vehicles matter even more. Again, the vast majority of trucking is under the range of a Tesla Semi so they don't need to stop, most long haul trucking isn't time sensitive to the point where stopping for 30 minutes to charge matters, and even if it was they could just have another truck pick up the load because it doesn't matter if you have fleet of 500 hydrogen trucks or 650 EVs if the total cost of moving goods is cheaper with EVs.

Also, electricity is pretty much everywhere and it's trivial for Tesla to install megachargers at truck stops but hydrogen infrastructure will take decades to build out and due to inefficiencies in converting electricity to hydrogen then back to electricity, they will always have higher fuel costs on top of higher maintenance costs. It won't stop idiots from investing in the industry but there is no future in it, it will lose.

Surely you're not this stupid, it's cheaper overall to go with electric even if you have more trucks to make up for this bullshit time sensitive long haul trucking case invented to make the argument for having any hydrogen trucks on the road while you completely ignore 95% of trucking where electric straight up murders hydrogen. In reality having trucks meet half way to hand off goods makes perfect sense, this is probably what will be done in the early stages of automation where they'll be allowed on the highways but not in densely populated urban areas. They'll get send to a hub and then distributed locally.

I’m kind of with you, however if you are getting “free” electricity from a wind turbine, but have no use for it, a 30% loss is acceptable to store it with the option of using it later. There are also Hydrogen powered cars, but storage is a bitch and batteries seem like obvious solution.

I simply sold my long position. And yes, I firmly believe they won't be able to fulfill many more contracts, as they have an abismal capacity, with no signs of increasing it. They would have to basically rent a factory, which will heavily eat into profits.

AFAIK It was RIDE who got the Hitachi deal, not WKHS, although the companies are closely related.

>gets the USPS contract it's going to run
That's a huuuge if. Having worked with government contracts, I wouldn't be sure they will award the contract this year. Also the only thing that will determine the winner is the amount paid as bribes, and I'm not sure Workhorse is in a great position at that.

They have the floor space for something like 60,000 vehicles per year, what they lack is tooling and workers. And the Hitachi deal solves the tooling issue. Don't get me wrong, WKHS is a speculative play, but there's much worse options (like GOEV lol)

It's just some schizo shit that's been floating around the internet for a long time. unironically yes. we're talking about the market here - not individual plane travel consumers
if a plane has been in service for 26 years, it is up to the mechanics / airlines to maintain
you can't blame boeing for a failure that takes place 26 years after it is sold
the market will not 'blame boeing' and boeing stock will recover within 2 weeks

Okay, let me put this another way since you have trouble grasping simple concepts like overall efficiency.

You have a truck with a 800 km range fully loaded but most trucks don't drive at the weight limit so you'll have extra. This means you could drive up to eight hours at 100 km/hr which is a typical highway speed. It takes 30 minutes for you to charge to go another 600 km+. Let's say your destination is 1,200 km away. In what situation does it matter if you get there in 12 hours or 12 hours in 30 minutes? It doesn't. Anything time sensitive like this gets put on a jet.
