Are the suburbs of Chicago a good place to live? I'm looking for somewhere to buy a house once I make it and the white areas of Chicago seem like a good option that's not too expensive.

Illinois' budget crisis is insane, the Democrats give their pet joggers a license to rob rape and murder, and the weather absolutely sucks for most of the year.

The Chicago area is an absolutely terrible place to live. Even relatively affluent white suburbs like Palatine or Tinley Park have pockets of outright ghetto sitting in the middle of them or just next to them, so you get situations like this:

Barrington is way too far from the city. I grew up in kenilworth. It’s like the 3rd richest zip in America. Kenilworth doesn’t have the gigantic mansions of say lake forest or the land of barrington. But it’s only 20 mins from downtown, and a small tight knit community. Interesting story... kenilworth didn’t allow Jews and blacks for the longest time. When we moved in the real estate agent asked my mom if we were Jewish. New trier tho has a pretty high % of Jews from the other feeder towns.

It's not too bad. Depends how far you want to live from the city. Stay the fuck away from Cook County if you can. Lake or McHenry County is comfy if you want to live further from the city but still within an hour or so, but it is definitely more hick-ish than your pic. I live in Brookfield, it's THE whitest suburb of Chicago-- look it up. It's got the biggest zoo of Chicagoland, pretty nice nature reserves, and it is VERY white. 95%+

But to answer your question OP. Look up kenilworth. It’s the ritziest suburb in the entire Midwest. Close to Chicago but still far enough away and the comfiest community. Only about 2,000 people and despite being one of the top 5 richest suburbs in America.... a large % of people in Chicago and surrounding areas have literally never heard of it

The St. Charles/Geneva area is super comfy and on the rise imo. Reminds me a lot of what Naperville used to be 15 years ago in terms of the downtowns and demographics. It’s about 40 miles west of Chicago though so takes about an hour to drive downtown.
