Get back to me when someone actually buys it at that price. Only then will you have something of substance to say.

>> No.25540577

It's viable, but risky since you have to really pay attention to the reception of the game and the amount printed. Investing in core sets of MtG and Pokemon TCG sealed booster boxes is more of a sure thing imo, be careful with MtG sets that had collector's boosters though.

the real mindfuck is Pokemon cards from 1998-2006
if you were a good little autist like me and never played with your holo cards and kept them in protective sleeves you stand to make $5-$50 per card on ebay, I even sold my rarest two for ~$500 each. Offers were coming in within minutes of listing. People really go bananas for these things lately.
Also most Pokemon game boy games complete in box will net you $100+ each easily.

Fair enough. Coming from an outsider to this, is there any particular rhyme or reason to which games fetch high prices like this? Like is it exclusively sealed, top tier games or is there more nuance to it?

It probably wouldn't hurt picking up an investment grade game like Final Fantasy or something just out of the lens of normies. It sucks that you'd have to pay ebay like 15% in fees or whatever. What I'm sure some people do like Alpha Investments is buy a shitton of the product he's shilling and make a youtube channel around it.

There are. Generally speaking for your typical North American copies from snes onward through PS2 era, games specifically of the Japanese rpg genre command an extremely fanatic but relatively small share of game players. The smart publishers know this and produce enough copies to meet demand without having bulk inventory that goes unsold to your typical gamer. Not all JRPG are created equal. Some like Final Fantasy enjoy brand recognition and have larger production runs to meet the demand from more casual audiences, others like the game I’m posting have little cross over appeal but when the game itself earns credibility among that hardcore fan base there’s little left over inventory. However it’s usually not these fans who are paying top dollar down the road as they have their copies. The true market is autotistic speeds with overbearing parents who never let them play as children. When they become successful as a result they go overboard and literally seek out the entire library of games for the generation of consoles they were denied. But as I stated when they go seeking these jrpg’s they can generally only find sellers who still cover them and the price spikes.
TL:DR find jrpg communities online, discover which games they absolutely love, buy and store cases of the games for 10-30 years as retailers liquidate their old inventory and finally enjoy your 5000% ROI

Yep. You’ve already missed the PlayStation 1 bus. PS2, Dreamcast, GameCube, Xbox and PS3 is where the meat is going to be. Newer consoles are switching to digital copies so what physical copies are produced may become extremely rare. Who knows. I wouldn’t automatically assume it’s the JRPG genre that will do well this generation as they aren’t as popular with kids, but find that niche that modern zoomers are obsessed with and apply the principles I’ve taught you. Got to get back to my game now. You can either bump this for other anons or let it slide and keep it to yourself. I don’t really care because I got mine lmao

I have a lot of these already. Lunar 1 and 2, Arc the Lad Collection, etc. Also have some other real rare ones like Valkyrie Profile. GameCube JRPGs are starting to skyrocket as well, luckily I already have most of them. Got lucky with finding Baten Kaitos Origins for $40 fully boxed last year and now I see it goes for over $100

If you’d actually played a lot of JRPGs as a kid like I did, you’d understand that the value is based a lot around how good the game is and how rare. Suikoden II is actually a really fun game, and not easy to find, so it’s worth a lot. Same with Valkyrie Profile, etc.

The reason PS1 JRPGs are worth a good amount for good condition ones is because when we were kids, these discs/cases/paperwork were incredibly easy to fuck up and damage in comparison to the cartridge generation that came before it. Pretty much everyone fucked up their games, so the number of good condition ones is really small.

It's not though, the market has been in a bubble for the past 6-7 years. Games like Suikoden are cool, but they are only sort after by a small percentage of the general gamer demographic. If you want to make money in the future off vidya game stuff you should be buying up actual rare shit that has a large consumer demographic (see pic related)
