The only thing they have in common is that they were founded by the same person (and that xrp schizos think they have anything in common). The original Stellar code was forked in 2014 from Ripple but completely rewritten from scratch and was relaunched in 2015 with a new consensus protocol, a built in DEX, and actual functionality to facility interoperability between existing and digital assets.
