I currently only have money invested in ETFs but I'm thinking about getting more active in my portfolio management.

I've been looking into the LSE AIM, especially stocks related to precious stones/metals extraction since the factors impacting the valuation of these firms are more limited than in other industries and stock prices are less market-driven. You can also update your DCF model at each announcement related to new reserves discovered, etc.

It's a shame there are no derivatives sold for the AIM, so everything is stock only. Another problem may be that the market is less liquid as market caps are lower.

shorts are buying puts to make MMs hedge and push down the price. They seem to sell after close(god knows why MMs would thake that trade), but MMs can't undo the hedge until market open due to no liquidity. That's why we have the daily opening surges. If you set a limit buy on such a put day it might actually get filled and MMs don't have to undo the hedge at open ( which explains the missing opening surge today, the market's also shit today so there's that).

I want to start selling covered calls as it pretty much seems like the safest bet in terms of options/steady gains.

I’m thinking of selling at the nearest expiration date and setting my strike price above the current share price. I’ll pick a price I’m comfortable selling my shares at, if the stock happens to be in the money. Is this a fine strategy to start out with?

I’ve tried buying calls and I’ve lost more than I’ve gained even though the potential profit is enticing. Just going for consistency now.
