Funny enough I had this same experience. The pain of losing her caused me to become so self-aware of my flaws and my immature/stupid behavior that lead to me losing her. Without losing something I cared so much about, I would've had no urgent reasons to really work on myself and grow the fuck up.

Instead of feeling and acting like a loser, I started taking my career and my health seriously. I make double what I make back then and am well respected by everyone I work with. I'm indistinguishable from where I was at two years ago. It's crazy what losing a girl will do for your motivation to improve.
