What's the deal with this shit seems a pretty legit project with Microsoft backing it, can anyone drop some redpills,

It’s basically a tool that lets users help OSS projects by “donating” to them via staking. When a user stakes his dev tokens, both the user and the project earn tokens (its 24% apy right now). How do both groups get rewards you may ask? The rewards come from the 2.24% inflation on the total supply per year.

What projects need help? Well, Wikipedia and The Python Foundation for starters. Both offer value without getting any money.

For example I’m supporting a freelance developer who’s working on a tool that automatically formats Python code to conform to the PEP 8 style guide. I’m staking in his project and I’ve made 200 dev so far. Not bad for passive money!

Can't just tip OSS projects when needed? What about grants and ICO?

This DEV project is so unambitious

why give a grant when you can yield farm and make money off the grant you're giving?

OSS ETF (approved already, being built), governance, YFI vault

OK anon, why not just tip projects instead

>just tip when needed
When was the last time you did this? Let’s be realistic here, no one donates or tips. When you add the dynamic of earning money on your donations, that completely changes the mindset of people.

You are using your dev tokens to support different projects and earn APY. You don't lose your funds like when tipping but you gain more.

>> No.25459894

How many times have you tipped an OSS project you use, anon? Ever? Probably never.

Case and point. This is why we need DEV.
