Welcome to the Monero General, dedicated to the discussion of the world's leading decentralized p2p privacy cryptocurrency!

Monero is secure, low-fee, and borderless, meaning users can send XMR around the globe despite corrupt governments or broken financial systems. Innovative privacy features such as Ring Signatures, Stealth Addresses, and Ring CT (hidden tx amounts) ensure that Monero's blockchain is obfuscated -- the financial history of all Monero users is encrypted from the prying eyes of adversaries on a public blockchain, with the proof of the transactions being possible by a Monero user willingly providing a view key for a specific transaction if needed.

Monero has also improved upon the scaling downsides of the current popular cryptos. To avoid high fees, dynamic block size ensures that the size of the blocks will increase as the amount of txs goes higher. Further, the mining network algorithm Random X establishes that anybody with a CPU can participate in mining, preventing the ASIC miner domination that creates a high barrier of entry. Lastly, the mining network will be preserved by Tail Emission -- instead of the block reward falling to zero like with Bitcoin, the block reward will gradually approach 0.6 XMR in May 2022, where it will forever stay. This constant linear inflation means the inflation rate will asymptotically go to zero while continuing to provide an incentive to miners to maintain the network.

If you still have questions, feel free to ask and a Monero Chad will be with you shortly.

localmonero is the best imo I bought there a lot (cash by mail and Zelle) never had any problem and was never asked for ID (just gotta avoid “buycoinsfast” who is obviously a fed honeypot)
Here’s a crazy idea I had for buying monero anonymously but didn’t try yet: rent some hash power from miningrigrentals and mint your own. I need to calculate if the cost is similar to the commission localmonero charges for anonymous xmr (~$15 over spot usually) but I think it’s comparable.

I have a semi-serious question about atomic swapping that is coming: Could a party/government/vilain use atomic swap to trick someone into starting a transaction, let's say for 500 millions, and never complete the transaction on their side, so both parties loose the money?

It'd be really dope if Bitcoin cash stepped up and decided to partner with Monero on Atomic swaps. As far as I know, Bitcoin Cash already has the required type of signature that is causing the delay in Bitcoin, right?

>> No.25439638

>>25439375
Schnorr signatures are still pending for bitcoin. They are needed for atomic swaps as I heard.

>> No.25439645

>>25439375
YES, i've been fucking saying its since last thread. The schnorr/taproot protocol is already active on bitcoin cash, they don't need to do anything. Monero DEVS need to fucking make the prototype or beta version on that, I hope they do it. Bitcoin could take forever to implement it, even Q4 2021 isn't a 100% guarantee.

>> No.25439702

>>25439645
The problem is I believe that supporters of Bitcoin Cash are just as up their ass as the Bitcoin Maxis and won't see any reason for the implementation. Would love to be proven wrong though.

That is not a concern. From what I understand there is actually a punishment command that is used when one of the two parties is acting in bad faith it causes some kind of a small penalty for bad behavior. No risk of loss for either parties because sharing one of the keys reveals the other key through some kind of algorithmic process. The hold up for atomic swaps to this point has been that Monero lacks a time lock function like bitcoin has

That's the sad thing, there is a minimum of btc you have to have as collateral, and I do not meet the requirements. My stimulus is kind of my first big onramp into crypto, so I don't have the bitcoin collateral to ironically gain the bitcoin collateral requirement amount.
