If that doesn't work, it's entirely possible for you to drag things out with staying by resorting to legal action. Varies by state, talk to a lawyer wherever you are. If you have established residency, she cannot simply throw you out, she has to follow an eviction process. Also, as her child, there are familial obligations for support in some states, especially if you're recovering from surgeries and chemo.

I had a friend in Boston who dragged her eviction out for nearly two years despite paying zero rent. OTOH in Seattle the process can take as little as five days. The current eviction moratorium may work in your favor, though, and drag it out even in fast states.

It all really depends on whether you really have no other choice and are willing to seriously piss her off forever, whether you're really *that* sick still, and whether you're willing to quit being an asshole about her life choices.

Short term:
