Suddenly you are doing it to be commercial, because of others, to be able to pay wages, to meet a price point, the list is endless and you aren't going to love every single part of it.

Like you make something. Suddenly you've got to network and deal with other people who are motivated not maybe by making something, but instead by prestige, whatever that meets to them, registration within the industry, good turnover, high profitability, mass market appeal.

Depends. Most people who say that their career ruined their hobby didn't actually like their hobby that much. Take programmers for example; nobody except for the most autistic turbonerds actually likes programming. Anyone who programs knows that 20% is the rewarding part and the other 80% is tedious bullshit. Doing it professionally means you can no longer avoid the boring, tedious stuff, and it is no longer rewarding because you're doing it to enrich someone else. But it's not like programming itself became less fun, it was just never that fun to begin with and you are now forced to deal with the boring stuff.
I collected antiques for a long time and briefly worked in a store; that was one of the best times of my life, because I genuinely loved the work 100% of the time. But I eventually left because it paid like shit. Most loveable jobs do.
The best way to describe it is that doing a hobby professionally will put your love for that hobby to the test. The reality is that most people only put half their heart into everything they do, they're low energy, so naturally every job they work will turn into "just a job." Nothing wrong with that.

It can. It did for me. I went to school for graphic design/illustration. Found work without too much problem out of school. Did it for a few years and began to hate it. The work was okay but the aspect of turning a vague idea supplied by the customer in to a final product was not. See, vague idea is usually not vague, it just wasn't communicated adequately. So customer has a specific result in mind but described to graphic designer in vague terms. Graphic designer tries their best to come up with something, gets approval on preliminary sketches, finish up and customer isn't happy. So okay you go through and do revisions. Now the inevitable price negotiations over revisions despite revision process clearly detailed in contract. I was spending more time on the phone or in meetings than I was doing actual design work. Eventually I quit.

Only way I would do graphic design again is if I worked for a big firm with its own legal department. Never self employed.

I loved solving problems and playing with embedded software and made it my job.
After 10 years of constant overworking and consecutive burnouts I don't want to do it anymore and it gives me a headache when I focus for more than 1 hour.
At this point I don't know if I will ever recover from my current burnout and if I want to do this again.

I think it's due to the realization that the ROI of being a music maker nowadays is crap generally (no money, doesn't really help you getting laid, etc.). I'm going through that as well most definitely, but for sure I still really like to hear music (it's the thing that keeps me going after all). Do consider that your lack of interest of music making might be temporary or you just need to switch to another musical instrument, in some years in the future I just might pick up a drumset.
