25266563 No.25266563 [Reply] [Original]

my dad is 62 and has been a lawyer for over 30 years. he very clearly is passionate about it and its quite admirable.

meanwhile, im a fucking 29 year old loser who's only stocked shelves. I avoid work as passionately as he works. Haven't worked since 2018. Got the stimmies, made 7k off bitcoin, and it just bolsters my resolve to keep avoiding work. But then i also faintly imagine me stoically welding pipes in the middle of nowhere making decent money. or working in alaska in a factory or something. Work just seems horrible, but so many faggots get up and do it everyday
>inb4 they need to
there's gotta be something else driving SOME of them right? Not every doctor did it for the money right? Accountants? Lawyers? How do you "enjoy working"? What does working give you?
>inb4 money
I could live in a van and do odd jobs, read books at the library, and just stare at the sky smoking american spirits. The pleasure of not working, not toiling is strong within me. I feel like a marooned aristocrat.

Please help

Completely depends on what you do. Keep in mind that a lot of upper management corporate jobs are make-work, where they sit on their asses making six figs while barely doing jack shit.
And then there are other jobs where you actually are busting your ass running around like a maniac for 8+ hours a day. The latter feels like death, whereas the people in the former who barely break a sweat (physically or mentally) don't mind at all.

I see the loss of actual physical communal workspace as a net loss in my book, since talking amongst work peers, while it has had it's quirks, has taught me plenty. Not all of that knowledge has gotten me richer (shocking), but I'm still here on this planet, holding my bags, balls, and my dreams, so some of it has worked out for me to some bullshit-quantifiable extent.

I'm 30 and I have over 500k in crypto at the moment. I have also done "stoic" jobs in the lumber industry working with Eastern europeans/Russians, but those jobs were dangerous to your health (breathing hazards from all the sawdust and other dust)

I'm not willing to go work for some jew leech 5 days a week, 8 hours a day. At this moment I would be willing to work something like 10-15 hours a week some stress free job

I currently study computer science, but no way in hell I would do this for living. It is dehumanizing to sit 8 hours straight staring screen while your brain works overtime, I hate thinking, I hate taking "responsibility that this system works as it should"

I do like programming when I can do it one hour of my own project or updating some easy cool website styles, not actual dehumanizing robot slave programming-for-someone-else

I'm willing to ride this 500k for the next decade, I met a 40 year old guy at my class who is desperately trying to get into software business after working some shitty odd jobs for the past 10 years, figured out that If I can gamble this 500k to mere 3-4x to 2030s I have nothing to worry about.

Your Dad fucked up and spoiled you. The only way out of your meaningless existence is to shock your perception of things and change your reality. Cut yourself off from your family as far as money goes. Never accept another dime from them. Ask your old man not to help and that you need to do things on your own now. Find a job you like and get yourself that van. Get a nice van that you can travel in. Drive up to Alaska and get in on an oil rig or with a parts supply business. Enjoy working outside your element. You will quickly pay off your van. Buy a house, keep investing and find another job that suits you or go into more training. Do something that provides for you. Find a girl. Have kids. Wake up.

>attempts to get rich are failing or screwed up by my own actions
>could be at nearly 200k if I acted and didn't screw up, all I had to do was go all in and hold a stock that's mooned big
>it's agonizing as I was monitoring that stock and bought a bit as well
>the only solace I have about this new job are two, I might get a gf (I'm a shut in) and money to throw into stocks

If you're smart and actually take advantage of school, you can get a white collar job and earn a healthy living in an air-conditioned building.

If you're a fuckup, you'll be spit on, disrespected by assholes, and likely have your body wrecked in a low-skill job.

The only way to escape either of these scenarios is to take risks that might make you rich or destitute.

Working from home due to Covid is great if you have a mindless office job. Gives you plenty of time to goof off. I make a full-time wage in software and make extra money from trading due to lack of supervision.

Here's what my wagie life's like. I don't want to say where I work, but it's manual labor and I have a lot of coworkers. Yes, I am a poorfag and I'm not even close to making it at this point. Anyway, I know how to do my job well enough that I basically do it unconsciously while I zone out into my own head. On good days it feels like purgatory, on bad days it's hell. Days go by at a reasonable pace as long as I keep busy, so I never stop. Being bored at work is torture because you're stuck there and time feels painfully slow. I only talk to people when I absolutely have to, usually strictly business, and I respond to anyone who asks me questions, but I'm generally taciturn so I don't socialize much and no one talks to me besides a few I exchange small talk with on rare occasions. In my head, I spend most of my time thinking about talking to one of my female coworkers that I fancy as the same self-defeating rhetoric circles through my head, day after day, month after month. Every time I'm near her my brain short circuits and my tongue gets twisted. I've passed up several opportunities to talk to her because I couldn't handle it. Wait, this has less to do with working and more to do with me being an incel. The work itself is actually pretty tolerable. Huh.

You should go buy a cheap arc welder and mask and get some practice welding scrap. When your dad enuqires as to what his 29yo son is doing trying to strike an arc in his back yard while spattering slag all over your mothers prized flowerbed... stop what you're doing and light a roll up of your american spirit and tell him... you're practicing because you plan to drive a van up to alaska while reading library books so you can work the alaskan summer stoicly welding pipe in a pipe welding factory because being a faggot who goes to work everyday is not for you. I can imagine the disguist as your father refuses to lend you the money to buy a van as he sees you're halfway through his old copy of 'big sur' which he borrowed from the library and never returned when he was 13 because it was closed down due to lack of funding.

I don't think it's a simple correlation with intelligence, but I do think it's evidence of lacking a well developed inner life. Highly intelligent narcissists have the same issue.

As you can see from the calendar, the game is coming up this weekend. I'm sure you are as excited for it as I am, as our cities are rivals and have been for quite some time. Your confidence in your team is high, but rest assured, you will suffer humiliation when the sports team from my area defeats the sports team from your area.

On numerous occasions, you have expressed the conviction that your area's sports team will be victorious. I must admit that every time I hear you make this proclamation, I react with both laughter and disbelief. "Ha!" I say to myself with laughter. "What?!" I say to myself in disbelief. How could you believe that your sports team could beat my sports team? It is clear that yours is inferior in every way.

When the sporting contest begins, the players on your team will be treated as though they are inconsequential. It will be remarkably easy for my team to accumulate more points than yours. There are many reasons for this, starting with the inferior physical attributes of the players representing your area. Strength, speed, and agility are just three of the qualities that the players on the team from your area lack. The players representing my area, on the other hand, have these traits in abundance.

A lot times people criticize complex code because they simply haven't thought through the problem deeply enough. Most tasks seem simple on the surface but become a lot more difficult when you consider edge cases, failure scenarios, and ongoing feature requests that blow up the scope of the project.

Also yeah sometimes people just write shitty code. There is a maxim in Python:

>simple is better than complex
>complex is better than complicated

The implication here is that some problems can't be solved with simple code, but you need to look at each problem individually and decide which ones can be solved with simple logic and which ones need complex logic.

more dangerous than crack cocaine is the narrative spinned around here on biz is that work should be despised on default
if you just look at the numbers you will see that a vast majority of people employed are more fulfilled than sheltered low lives on 4channel "NEETing". one can always quit his job at ANY time, go back to school, learn a trade, change branches, become self employed, get certifications, take over the family business - scale it, find a way to travel the world while doing your job, work for a non profit overseas,
literally endless possiblities to find a balance and mastering your trade/craft
but with the black and white thinking here the only reply you are getting "COPE WAGIE"

It's okay if it's something that fits you, and you manage to keep a reasonable work-life balance. I like computers and I work as a developer. I want to go part-time eventually but otherwise I have no problem with it and could do it indefinitely.

However I have also worked in retail, and it was hell. Mind-numbingly boring yet somehow stressful as well. I honestly might have killed myself if I had no other choice than to work there for the rest of my life.

Fuck the American idea that hard work with long hours is the goal and you’re worthless and lazy if you don’t do it. People should work 25 hours a week max and be more productive because of technology. My boomer dad seems to think a 50 hour workweek is ideal. I hate that nonsense.

same, 27 here, only shelves and restaurant work, all for pittance while working my ass off for 15h a day even(in resaturant or bar), haven't worked in 2 years
needles to say, I absolutely despise working yet at the same time I despise being neet, though at least it's more entertaining but I don't get money and still live with mom. I will just shoot myself soon

>I feel like a marooned aristocrat.
You are a spoiled cunt and you always will be, life is not fair and some people have to work or they go into the street. If you get so depressed from being a complete waste of space and you decide to live stream your suicide please post a link here so I can watch, it would make my day and I hear that making others happy is a guaranteed way to boost your mood. Finally, your dad is a nonce, the only happy lawyers are sociopaths which explains at least partly why you are so lacking in empathy.

Damn this thread attracted a lot of cagey wagies. The simple fact is that if you were content with being a wagie you would not be on this board trying to shortcut to a rich life you don't "deserve".

Mutts have bought into the idea that they too can become rich by just hustling more and that happiness is just being rich. Now they have to hold several jobs or work 60 hours a week just to survive because it became the norm over time

OP and anyone else, what you need to do is find something that feels like play to you, and pursue a career in that.

You cannot do nothing, even if you had all the money in the world that will make you miserable, so you must reinvent yourself, what excites you? what gives you energy after a day of doing?

Life is your single-player game, what choices will you make anon?

>the lower intelligence you have, the more genuine pleasure you derive from sports
This may be true in many cases for watching but not doing. Being good at something like climbing, biking, skateboarding, etc. allows you to enjoy a physical hobby at a level most people never will. If you don't have any experience doing sport at a high or even intermediate level, well, that explains why you wrote this take

You have to find a carrot to dangle in front of you, something to chase ultimately that your work will lead to. Money for most, they start making a decent amount of it and they want more, eventually they're consumed in it. It sounds like you never got off the launchpad so of course you detest work, you've only done dumb work.
