How difficult is it to get a small batch soda or beer into a store like Whole Foods?

Depends how big the bottle is and how much lube you've got.

Hey OP, I worked at whole foods recently and I know for a fact the beer/alcohol sections are VERY competitive to get into. I never heard how brands were able to get through. Im sure the entire store is like that

As far as soda goes, you probably want a gimmick or something - you probably know they dont accept things they deem to be "unhealthy" but ive seen kinds there. Honestly it might be worth your time to go into a store and talk to a buyer/team-leader and ask about their processes when buying

I bet the ideal for them is like healthy + got its own gimmick/niche + woman/poc owned (unironically, I know this is fucking gay) + local

probably hard as hell. if you absolutely want to try to break into a chain go smaller like a sprouts or a nugget, but even those are likely too big. you need to find high end independent family grocers and offer them good deals, but even that is probably out of reach for someone with no penetration. i've lived in all the big cities on the west coast and the ideal geography for this would be bay-area suburbs, way out in the rich areas like santa cruz and sonoma county. every one of those towns has boutique high-end small footprint grocers that feature stuff like that, those outlets are your stepping stone to a small regional chain and eventually the big boys like kroger safeway or whole foods.

If you're Portland go New Seasons and Green Zebra. They have a program specifically for local producers to get onboarded

also, depending on your product and its aesthetic, maybe try to sell in marijuana stores? they are popping up everywhere and the clientele is loose with their cash. most of the stores are empty as hell and stocking a few dozen mini fridges aint much but its at least sales, which is hugely important to bigger customer. selling in these areas can build up cache, as opposed to trying to get them into independent mini markets where you're selling to tweakers and competing with monster and rockstar.
