really?
it's hit me way harder this year than any
I think when I was 18 I only thought about my own quick death, not having to deal with my parents dying slowly

I'm a lot more concerned about my parents having a long convalescence, through dementia or something, than them dying one day. People who make it to their 80s then just die have it a lot better than people whose last 20 years are being demented in a home.

literally had a moment of existentialism tonight with that exact thought. I've never feared death or worried that my time is running out before tonight.

I want to do things differently.

i don't think we will. might be wishful thinking but i've wondered if the closer to death you get, the sooner your life readjusts. let's say half the times you've ever crossed a intersection you got hit by a car. but you don't remember because your life recalibrated immediately. same with getting older, it's almost ironic that pushing the limits of aging and making such substantial breakthroughs. or there's the augmented route, which will recall memories and most likely evolve to be able to read-write-edit those stitched together videos on your death bad as you lose yourself in reliving your life played out.

It's very strange to think that beneath all of our jobs, social interactions, tv/movies/vidya/music, websites browsed, places driven to, countries visited...in the end, this body stops working and after that there is either non existence or an afterlife. In a way, everything you do is escapism to avoid looking at the internal age clock ticking away that gets closer and closer to death.

that sounds nice but we're probably gonna have to face death and for some of us it could be awful.

Another possibility is that you do die, but then you "wake up from a dream" in a parallel reality. I have had many dreams of very vivid deaths. Perhaps when you wake from one of these dreams, you really did die in that other reality and all of your memories of this current reality instantly load when you awake from the dream. If there's similarities (in the dream you were with the same girlfriend that you have in the new reality) it could be because you only jump to very similar realities upon death.

You shouldn't worry about pain or dying, but the afterlife or lack thereof. There are major advances in pain relief, even research being done into shutting off pain entirely in the brain. Have you ever been sick, really sick? Everything is faded out, as you get closer to death there's lots of pain but your existence and awareness of reality is slowly fading out too so you're not taking in the pain and suffering of dying at 100%, probably at a lower level like 70%. And dying is natural. You will die and do very well at it, just like every famous person in history and every forgotten person in history experienced death. Death is not a thing from the history books or something that happens in TV/movies. It is something that is coming for YOU in the future!

The dying part is the part that sucks
The physical pain of bleeding out or watching your guts pulse in your hands after you got hit by a frag, that part sucks.
But dying FOR a cause is the real redpill

What about having your cognitive abilities intact but trapped in a husk that cannot walk on it's own without risk of shattering your hip?
That's my grandpa. That's my future. Outliving his wife for 8 years. He was fine until that happened. Grandmother was smart and funny. Even for an old christian fart. My family has no bloodlines to remedy their lack of honor but my own. I think I'm going to change my last name.
