Am I understanding this coin correctly? It's basically a fund holding BTC,ETH,LINK,SNX with an added deflation mechanism? How can this fail as long as not all of those 4 coins also fail as well?

No. Statera is simply a deflationary token. It can be tied to a variety of different tokens.

What you are talking about is the phoenix fund, which becomes available from minting delta tokens. It's more complicated. Statera in itself is simply a currency that deflates any time it is transacted. It's as simple as that.

Depends on your preferred risk profile. Statera itself is quote volatile whereas their "phoenix fund" (balancer pool) is the lowest risk option, containing all of the coins you mentioned. Delta token is the intermediary option in terms of risk.
