And it's not equivalent to buying the underlying because let's say you're a cereal maker. You know how much wheat you need to shred every month, but your shareholders don't want you to potentially get fucked over by the wheat market. So you buy a bunch of contracts that say "X tons of wheat at such and such a price in January" then others that are for February, and so on.

This is much better than having to store, like X times 12 tons of wheat, if you bought it all at once. And if the price of wheat skyrockets in, like, March, you're safe because you locked in a lower price months earlier.

Conversely farmers will use these futures to guarantee their crops sell at a good price, even if the price plummets for whatever reason. Same deal for, like, airlines and oil drillers or iron miners and steel mills.

Middlemen will do forecasting and see if they can snag good deals among these contracts based on information neither of those other parties may know.

Leveraged etfs are just etfs that multiply its gains/losses. So if it loses 1%, and its 3:1, it would lose 3%. Vice versa for gains, 1% becomes 3% for whatever etf the leveraged version is looking at.

That's just basic math. Your stock's value is 110 at that point, so if it dropped 10%, it would drop 10% of 110, not whatever stupid value you first purchased the stock on, because that's retarded and makes no fucking sense.
