If you don't pay taxes you will have a lien on your house. When you try to sell that will be something that comes up on the title report. Someone else can pay the lien and end up owning your house with a quit claim deed from auction. What state are you in? In Florida there is homestead tax exemption, a 98% reduction if you live in the house.

Bank gets it. Odd isn't it? You paid off the bank so it'd make sense for the government to get it yet it seems they hand it off to a bank. When the bank owns it they pay no property tax. Or in other cases the property tax is added as a bill to the house that piles up every month, the bank doesnt pay it, and gets paid by whomever buys the house.

Pretty odd don't you think? The bigger part is you'd probably still owe money back even after the bank and government collected the full value of it elsewhere unless you declared bankruptcy.

i've made this point dozens of times. they really are retarded. if you're paying rent to shekelstein you are making indefinite payments that are indexed to inflation which cover taxes, maintenance/capital improvements, and your landlord's profit margin.

compare this to owning a home where you do not pay a landlord's profit margins, where you have total control over the property, and where the payments are NOT indefinite and are NOT indexed to inflation.
