Bitcoin Cash (BCH) and Bitcoin Satoshi Vision (BSV) are clones of BTC.
In order to increase the supply of the original Bitcoin another clone would have to be created, but the original would still exist, and just because such clones exist doesn’t mean people will use them or value them over BTC.

wrong BSV is bitcoin

Couldnt miners agree to a supply increase and force it through? CZ has already hinted at there being a cartel that could force revisions on chain, though he was apparently talked out of it because of the shit storm it would cause.

Theoretically members of the Federal Reserve could come out tomorrow and explain to the masses that the monetary system is just a banking cartel to rob them of their purchasing power slowly over decades, they are sorry for their parasitic actions, and that people should call their Congressman and urge them to default on all Federal debt and to pass the competing currencies bill that will separate the money supply from governmental control. Then the value of a dollar would drop to nothing. I mean it's possible that Fed members could do that. BIG THINK MOMENT WOAAAAHHHH.

Joking aside that's probably more likely than the scenario in that stupid article.

wrong. lurk more
not to say that bitcoin core (BTC) isn't supposed to be more valuable, it is. however, this jsut goes to show that the protocol is whatever people decide the protocol to be. there is no telling that once we start getting rewards orders of magnitude less than tx fees that this will continue so, and then the whole scheme fails

Yes the miners could all vote to increase the cap beyond 21 million.
Then the price would tank as people would sell into something else.
And all that precious mining hardware they sunk millions into would suddenly not be so profitable anymore.
Look at BCHABC for hints about what happens when you jack around with peoples money.
