I haven't had an emergency requiring a fund in 10 years though. Imagine if I had invested it that whole time. Even if it's in super non volatile index funds or something. Even if there's a huge crash, if I've invested it for a year it probably would come close to breaking even.

>> No.24752264

Well yes, requiring the use of that fund shouldn't be a regular thing. You should never have to use it at all. However it shouldn't take you that long to accumulate it. I see it as an absolute amount (keeping pace with inflation if you want). Once you reach roughly 3x wages then you can put all your income into your stocks

So what about the situation we just had in February where many companies cut dividends, the stock prices all fell by large amounts with few exceptions, and, for example, the emergency is that you happened to lose your job at the beginning

Your money has just lost loads of value due to the tempoary share price crash, your dividends have been cut, and you have no income. You have no emergency fund because it's in divvie stocks which have lost value at the time you need access to money

Now you have to sell at loss or ask people for money

Agreed. Wealth inequality is one of those false concerns that proggies try to make people worry about because it's so large and intangible that, if you believe it's a real problem, the only solution is to expand government powers and refashion all of society. As soon as they get you to believe it's real, you're already trapped into accepting their solutions.

In reality, wealth inequality is just being caused by asset inflation and wage stagnation, which are inevitable in a maturing economy.

My big long-term worry with crypto is regulation, not pajeets. We're long past the "it's not real, I can't hold it" stage, so if the governments of the world don't fuck it up, and you don't put money in shit coins, you'll probably do ok long run.

When wealth inequality gets too severe, generally policy makers have to do some sort of wealth redistribution or the rabble will cause a redistribution of poverty.

all-in-all this is why i much prefer day trading highly liquid stocks in play. at least then it's just about having a systemic approach with statistical evidence backing it up and proper risk management where you're just trying to make more than you lose in the long run. you hold shit overnight especially for a long time and you could always run into some covid crash or SAGE-style event (around nov 29th of last year)

What happens to calls when reverse split? Pic related and quote below - different answers.

"Reverse Splits
A reverse split also reverses the adjustment process. For example, if you buy a call option that controls 100 shares of XYZ with a strike price of $5. If XYZ announces a 1:5 stock split, the contract would now control 20 shares with a strike price of $25." - Investopedia

They're not different answers. When you buy "a call" that is a contract for 100 shares of XYZ. One clause of that contract is "if XYZ splits or reverse splits, both parties agree to do the sensible thing."

So if XYZ does a split or reverse split, the contract now deals with 500 nu-shares or 20 nu-shares of XYZ.
