It's a good compliment if you are ambitious. a real MBA (not some sub 20 no name school) is less about the actual education and more about the network it provides you. It's a much more intangible advantage that generally takes a while to pay off. Alot of my class have an engineering background and are jumping to consulting/banking/some other high paying job because engineering just doesn't provide that unfortunately. It is a great background to have and I'm glad I have a strong math and problem solving skillset. People without strong math backgrounds are insecure and rightfully so. Excel scares them.

Get the engineering degree to have a solid foundation then go work hard and get into the field you want. Or get into a top tier finance program, work hard, and get a job at a bank then do whatever you want.

None. Anyone who says STEM is listening to boomer advice. The raw data shows that STEM is actually one of the worst fields for job opportunities right now due to oversaturation. But people will still parrot advice from 10 years ago not realizing that everyone already took that advice and made STEM degrees worthless. There are too many degree holders and not enough jobs to satisfy them, especially in CS where you either get lucky enough to make it or have your job openings all filled by Durgasoft.

well I'm 20 and I've worked at my current job since 18. I started working between 15-18 at a kitchen, shitty pay and work environment so I left for my current job which is outsourced admin work. I worked hard, wasn't lazy like my coworkers, was friendly with management and within a year I'd already been promoted and given a monthly bonus + pay rise. I learned about investing, started earlier this year and made a huge profit.

Here's a tip you won't hear often: volunteer for shit. Charities consistently at the weekend, courses at work, anything. People will remember.

Low level CS jobs may be saturated, the ones you qualify for with a boot camp certification or smth. Also it's true you don't need a degree, but it's not easy to learn everything on your own. Like for example how to apply discrete math or linear algebra to some algorithm related issue. I guess you could make an analogy to construction, almost everyone can start using a hammer and a saw, but you're going to be easily replaceable. Learn the difficult stuff and it might be another story

Unlike what that other tard said an accounting degree is very useful even if you dont go for your CPA. It's a great way to get yourself into the finance department at most big companies even it you dont want to be an accountant forever. If you take the public accounting route yeah you'll need a CPA eventually but public accounting is for workaholics I only recommend it as a resume builder for a few years or to transition to self employment as a CPA

I'm almost done with the CPA exam and it's the hardest thing I've ever done, it's taken up about a year of my life and if you're not motivated to study you will not pass
