If the mines got shut down, that would lead to the entire collapse of the economy, at which point you'd want to have stockpiled lead as much as, or more than PMs.

Not saying not to have physical PMs too, but I still think stocks and physical are both good plays unless we're going full Mad Max.

Oh also you could consider holding shares of companies with operations or dual-listings in other parts of the world outside North America, like Rio Tinto and BHP (Australia), Anglo-American (South Africa) etc.
