It will be a bridge currency between blockchains, which will be utilized in Lightning Swaps.
There are already solutions which make writing 'smart contracts' easier for BTC and other chains based on a UTXO or EUTXO model. Cardano, Komodo, etc.
DApps are possible on a UTXO blockchain, Qtum have got this one down pretty well.
