>“Stop talking about regulatory arbitrage. Censorship-resistance, privacy, and tax evasion are bad ideas. We hate that.”

>The conversation began with a huge letdown. I had asked Michael Saylor what could motivate greater institutional investment in Bitcoin—after all, if Bitcoin is going to the moon, we’re gonna need a lot of deep pockets to climb on board.

>“People with billions of dollars don’t want to invest in crypto networks that support anarchists,” Saylor explained.

>Anything that advertises privacy and freedom from government theft becomes a direct enemy of the FBI, Interpol, and every law enforcement agency on the planet.

Ah, yes, the ethical billionaire problem. That is why there is no money in so-called "tax havens", and that is why business elites never use the same banks as criminal organizations. Right? I'm not sure why there's $10 trillion USD floating around these tax havens, but it can't be because rich people like privacy or anything like that.

I disagree. I think Monero is one of the strongest long term investments in crypto at the moment, if not the strongest.
The dark net markets moving towards Monero is a bellweather. Monero's built-in privacy has convinced a group of people to turn away from transparent chains to opaque ones. In doing so, it signifies the first shift in this emerging asset class towards privacy, and it shows the prelude towards an adjustment from normal users who are currently unaware of the terrible privacy that blockchains like Bitcoin have in lieu of chain analysis. As more regulations come into place -- and more regulations will come about, it is inevitable -- more people will seek financial privacy. So to say that investing heavily in privacy is a bad idea, especially in a sector that has laughably atrocious privacy, is in itself retarded.

Monero is like cash. Once you withdraw it from an exchange it can't be traced. This is different than something like Bitcoin, which can very easily be traced with today's chain analysis technology once it leaves an exchange.
What is happening right now is every KYC exchange has the information of wallets that people have sent their Bitcoin to off of an exchange, and these wallets are monitored for things such as tax evasion or sending funds to "blacklisted" wallet addresses.
Once a wallet address is linked to your identity every future transaction associated with it will be known by the feds. There are numerous stories already of people attempting to cash out Bitcoin and having their accounts frozen for "suspicious activity". Sometimes these people are innocent but they fall victim to a prior Bitcoin user that used the Bitcoin for something bad.
So you are correct that the exchange will know if you withdraw or deposit Monero at certain times, but they have no idea what you do with your Monero once it is in your personal wallet. You could hold on to it forever, or you could spend it weekly. Monero is what we call "fungible".
>>24680495
If you take the time to study Monero you'll realize that, with the exception of metadata, Monero ensures untraceable transactions. Wallet transactions don't appear on the block chain, amounts of obfuscated, and ring signatures show decoy transactions that an adversary won't be able to differentiate. The math behind it is a little complex so I'd recommend reading "Mastering Monero" if you want to read up on it (it's free).
