I'm so happy that the old general chat channel in the Temple of Kleros was deleted after I spoke to a few key individuals. It was very nice to come to a reasonable crossroads there rather than say having the entire server taken down I think. We just can't have racism, sexism, homophobia and transphobia permeating in our main communication channels can we, not if we want further adoption. The future is bright.

I'm surprised there aren't more Japanese translation cases with how big crypto is in Japan and the general otaku culture in crypto. Thought there would be dozens of doujin translation requests by now and it was one of the biggest use cases of the project.

Seems like all the cases are in curation whatever that is or Spanish for some reason.

Spanish is not surprising. There's over a billion speakers and then portuguese is basically also spanish. Jap being uncommon is also not a surprise because even though it's popular on the internet, it has a very low marketshare in spoken languages in general. There aren't a lot of qualified/good J-E translators even though lots of weebs take a year's worth of jap courses in college. The kanji difficulty spike is really hard to get over for native E speakers, and unlike China having a billion people so at least some of them become decent E speakers, Japan doesn't have that many people to begin with so they have proportionally fewer good E speakers to act as translators.

I've said this in other threads, but at least for Jap -> Eng translation, it's really easy to get a good reputation. Scan/Sub groups exist all over the place and already take commissions based on trust, so there's not much need for a trustless service like Linguo, especially when it offers more risk to a good or established translator compared to just taking commissions already. The worst thing for a good translator isn't losing their staked ETH, it's having their time wasted on a project that then gets fucked because some challenger showed up and challenged their work, then jurors decided in favor of the challenger. I can easily see that happening just once and burning a translator on the project for all time.

Back to Spanish, I can see that being big on Linguo for translating an Eng translation of Jap media to Spanish. One of my translation projects had that happen to it (I think they asked me for permission beforehand and I said yes, but I certainly couldn't have stopped them if they just went ahead without my blessing). I don't know what the J-E-S translation community is like, so there might be more of a market for trustless translation there than there is in the J-E community which has already established norms.

I've been on and off learning for years. Finished remembering the kanji but quit literally right after because it was such a time sink and I realized I knew literally nothing after a year of study. Tried again but conjugation got discouraging. I'm probably at a decent enough level to serve on the court though if a lot of cases were going through. Sad it didn't take off.

Kleros is my biggest bag though. It's criminally undervalued just a matter of waiting until that value is realized. Could be months could be years but it will happen eventually.

>Sad it didn't take off.
We're still extremely early. Linguo literally just opened up and apparently I'm the only person staked in the J-E court. I also got stalled by the kanji wall but eventually figured out that it's like the periodic table in high school chemistry, eventually you just start remembering it from using it so much, even if you don't devote time and energy to explicitly studying kanji. The best way I've found (at least for recognizing kanji) is just to plow through something you want to read with a dictionary open. Eventually after twenty times looking up the same kanji, your brain decides it's less effort to just remember the damn thing and boom, now you remember it.

>>24675380
Everybody loves anime. It's why anyone saying Jap is a dying language is a retarded FUDer. Any language that produces entertainment media that people in other languages are willing to invest resources into learning or translating will never die out. Just look at Latin and Ancient Greek.

UNISWAP. If you're a US citizen you're not allowed on exchanges that trade it. Personally I don't like the idea of dapps (metamask) but it's necessary to use Kleros at all so I'm putting up with it. I just wish there was a way to use it with proper desktop wallets or better, cold wallets. Most of my PNK is in cold storage right now after trading ETH for PNK on uniswap. It wasn't too difficult, just gas fees were outrageous because I picked a bad time to get in.

Actually I'm looking at the Kleros dashboard and I'm seeing the reward for non-technical is 0.07ETH, but the reward for J-E Translation is 0.08ETH. That's broken. The reward for General is also 0.08ETH. J-E translation is a specialized skill requiring way more than 1.14 times the skill needed for non-technical.

How do these rewards get upgraded? Is it based on having more cases than jurors so rewards get jacked up to attract jurors? Marketing Services Reward/Risk ratio is also pretty fucked up, 0.12 is nuts given how much is required to stake in that court.

Do these metrics free float or are they set in stone? No, I haven't read the whitepaper yet I've got WFH stuff I'm working on.

It's really simple:
>two parties sign a smart contract with a clause stating that in the case of disputes, the decision on how the smart contract executes goes to kleros court
>Party A isn't happy with Party B's fulfillment of the contract, so they hit the Kleros Court button
>both parties submit evidence that they either did or did not comply with the contract to three indian villagers on the Kleros platform
>after reviewing the evidence, the jurors vote on how the contract should or should not execute
>if either party is unhappy with the result and thinks a different jury would have voted in their favor, they appeal
>now it's six indian villagers and a /biz/nessman that vote on the same evidence
>this continues with increasingly larger juries (and fees) until the appealer gives up

The value comes from providing a trustless mechanism for disputing smart contract resolution, because currently there is no court in the world that will handle small claims dispute resolution between individuals in different nationstates. So there's a market for justice. The kleros platform has built in incentives for jurors to vote honestly, so you have some assurance that cases are being decided on their merits rather than on a whim or corruption.
